Pitt baseball has been improving under Coach Joe Jordano. So much so, that you can actually listen to some of the games this year on the radio and via a livestream.
WPTS has Pitt baseball broadcasts this year. The first one is this Saturday at 3pm against IPFW
If you are in the ‘Burgh Pitt’s student radio station is 92.1 FM. Otherwise you can listen on the WPTS Website.
Anyways, here’s the press release and broadcast schedule.
Pittsburgh—92.1 WPTS-FM, the student radio station for the University of Pittsburgh is proud to become the radio home of Pittsburgh Panthers baseball. WPTS will air 11 games of exciting Pitt baseball during the 2011 season, beginning Feb. 25 against IPFW at 3:00 p.m., the first game at the brand-new Petersen Sports Complex.
The March broadcast schedule includes back-to-back non-conference games against Toledo on Mar. 19 and Niagra on Mar. 20 as well as Mar. 23 matchup against in-state rival Penn St. and a Mar. 29 game against Ohio University.
WPTS will also broadcast four Big East Conference games during the month of April, including April 2 and 3 games against long-time rival Notre Dame and an Apirl 8 game against in-state foe Villanova. The April schedule is rounded out with an April 19 game
Led by head coach Joe Jordano and listed by Rivals.com as one of “College baseball’s rising program’s” heading into 2011, The Panthers are coming off a 38-18 record last season, which earned Pitt its first ever top-25 ranking. Pitt looks to improve on last year’s record, which saw Pitt narrowly miss the NCAA tournament, led by starting pitchers Corey Baker and Matt Iannazzo, who each won 11 games last year. The Panther’s offense returns six starters from last season including outfielder Zach Duggan, first baseman David Chester and pre-season All-Big East selection, catcher Kevan Smith.
All 11 games broadcast by WPTS can be heard in the Pittsburgh area on 92.1-FM and around the world at www.wptsradio.org

I actually broadcast Villanova baseball games (I wear a Pitt shirt under my logoless blue sweater), and so I did a few of the Pitt/Nova games last year. Met Kevan Smith’s parents–good thing that kid switched over to a sport he’s good at.
But no one has asked how could a home run hit outta the park be called an out.
The ump ruled it so because the batter was taunting the pitcher as he rounded the bases!
To add to my list, and I’m not making these things up, I was at that Toronto baseball game when the couple in the hotel was doing their own version of the seventh inning stretch to the delight of the crowd.

I was in the Band at that Steeler Game. I think that was Jackie Anderson’s last year in the band and only the second year for women in the band. (Pitt was last public school in nation to go coed in the band, ND went over the year before which had been the last in the schools Pitt regularly played) Just some other stuff..
My happiness for the new kids is eclipsed only by my jealous anger. Punks.
Continuing my extraordinary ability(?) to attend live sporting events with bizarre twists…e.g., a minor league game with an HR out of the park called out, a Stanley Cup game won by the Habs on an illegal stick call, the Eagles Giants Fumble game, the Orioles Yankees playoff game with the kid in right field nabbing the ball (the list goes on and on)…I was at the Pitt RU game last year with Coach Hill watching from his truck.
