Really not a lot to say about the beat down of DePaul. A slow methodical, water torture. A brief glimmer of hope for the Blue Demons in the second half, before Pitt just opened it u. When the headline for Chicago coverage reads, “No. 5 Panthers latest team to rout Demons” it kind of sums things up.
So, there isn’t much to say about the game. Perfunctory stories. Pitt shut down Cleveland Melvin and left the Blue Demons declaring Pitt the most physical team they faced this year.
Ashton Gibbs broke 1000 points in his Pitt career in the game.
Now it is back to the Pete and Big Monday once more. The Irish come calling. Pitt lost twice to them last year, so there is a sense of payback.
Regardless it was a decent win. I’m gearing up for the game tonight. 8-0 would be an amazing start in the Big East this year.
1. Corey Davis – RB – already discussed on this site. A 2-star all purpose player – 5’11”, 180 lb and 4.4 speed – much like the WR below. He’s from Gladewater TX – let the Texas pipeline to Pitt begin!
2. Issac Bennett, a two-star RB recruit according to Scout – “I had a great trip,” Bennett said. “I want to be a part of something new there.” Bennett wasn’t heavily looked at and his only other offers were reportedly Tulsa and Louisiana-Monroe. He’s 5’11” and 190 lb – listed as very tallented and under the radar – he’s from the Tulsa area, so I’m sure our coaches got a close look at the kid.
3. Darius Patton – Ohio WR – Patton may have been a Bearcat commit, but his high school coach seemed to refute that. At any rate, Patton is a three-star receiver as rated by both Rivals and Scout. Patton reportedly had offers or interest from several schools including Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State, West Virginia, Cincinnati, and several others. He’s a speedy (4.43 secs in the 40) and smallish WR (5’10”). That’s the type of WR and RB you will see a lot of in this offense – that’s OK as I like the DeSean Jackson type who get lots of YAC in our hurry up offense!
“When he’s not on the basketball court, chances are good that Pittsburgh standout Gilbert Brown can be found on the sofa. Whether he’s catching up on episodes of “24” on his DVD player or listening to music on his iPod”
It suprises me. I thought that when Pitt players were not in the gym, one could find them in the library.
1. Orlando, FL area linebacker LaQuentin Smith had a “phenominal” visit at Pitt yesterday. a 3-star LB he’s also looking at South Florida and WVU. He’s 6’1″ and 205 lb and runs a 4.6.
2. Cincinnati area LB Anonio Poole flew back home after a visit to the U of Miami where Todd Graham visitted with him at has home in Cincinnati last night. Busy weekend for Graham! Poole is 6’2″, 210 lbs and has been considering a bunch of schools!
3. Pitt is trying hard to land 4-star DB/athlete Jermaine Whitehead from Mississippi! He has a soft verbal to Miss St. He’s 6’0 and 185 lb.
4. Texas WR Keyarris Garrett enjoyed his visit to Pitt this past weekend. Could be a verbal soon! He’s big (6’4″) and fast for his size (4.58). He’s between Pitt ans Tulsa.
5. Lots of other players are telling the scouting reports they enjoyed their trips to Pitt including FL DB Darrell Hunter, Clairton 3-star TE Desimon Green, and Trinity-Pawling QB Cormac Craigie. It sounds like the weekend was a success – I’m sure the Steelers connection was big since there wasn’t a hoops game. Next weekend should also be HUGE as the Steelers prepare for the Super Bowl!
Gotta love that recruting scope – Orlando, Cincinnati, Mississippi, Texas… THAT is how you build a national program.
Besides when I was at Pitt I never had much homework to do, never really attended class, played a ton of videogames, went out a lot and had a 3.85 GPA.
XBlackMagicX, we are from different eras. When I went to Pitt, we had a lot of homework.
You are smarter than I am. Although I had good grades, I did not achieve a 3.85 QPA.
I watched the program about Pitt BB on ESPNU. They made a point about how the players hung out and bonded in the rec room after dinner. There are a lot of articles about how the players live off campus. The beat writers just don’t write stories about how well the players manage their time; how they are able to write those term papers; spend time in the gym in the morning; practice in the evening; maintain their apartments; and still find time to hang out. When I went to Pitt, my studies took up most of my time.
As far as being jealous that I was not a student-athlete, so what if one of the coaches told you,” XBlackMagicX, that big guy was no athlete”. That was just a coach’s opinion.
At least it was another convincing win for us, though…
