Dodge Confirmation

From Stuart Mandel of Sports Illustrated.

And ESPN.com’s Brian Bennett confirms:

The new additions are Todd Dodge as quarterbacks coach, Spencer Leftwich as offensive line coach and Tony Dews as tight ends coach.

Leftwich has coaches offensive lines for 20 years and worked in that position at Tulsa under Graham. He was also at North Texas from 2007-09.

Dews comes over from Michigan, where he served as Rich Rodriguez’s wide receivers coach. Dews also coached receivers at West Virginia in 2007, and is the fourth member of the staff — including Graham — who had served as a Mountaineers assistant under Graham.

In addition, Graham has installed Shawn Griswold as Pitt’s strength and conditioning coach. Griswold served that role at Tulsa from 2004-10.

That does mean that Buddy Morris is out as Pitt’s Strength & Conditioning Coach. Though, I half expect him to return in another couple years.

UPDATE: Here’s Pitt’s official press release on Graham’s Coaching Staff.

New Pitt head football coach Todd Graham has filled eight of the nine vacancies on his coaching staff. The current members of Graham’s staff, and their positional assignments, include:

Paul Randolph: executive associate head coach, co-defensive coordinator, defensive line

Calvin Magee: assistant head coach, co-offensive coordinator, running backs

Mike Norvell: co-offensive coordinator, wide receivers, director of recruiting

Keith Patterson: defensive coordinator, linebackers

Tony Dews: tight ends

Todd Dodge: quarterbacks

Tony Gibson: cornerbacks, recruiting coordinator

Spencer Leftwich: offensive line

Additionally, Graham named Shawn Griswold the director of strength and conditioning for Pitt football.

Brief bios for all the hires are further down the release.

Todd Dodge is a notable figure from the Texas HS ranks. He created some very unique and high powered offenses while winning multiple 5A state championships. Outstanding Hire.

Definitely. He should be able to land us a few recruits from Texas over the next few seasons.

Reading an article on TulsaWorld about Graham recruiting a few of his top Tulsa recruits. The comments below are kind of funny. Several fans say the NCAA should ban coaches from recruiting players when they leave a school…good for a nice laugh:

If only they knew how many coaches pounced on Pitt recruits the second wannstedt was fired. The whole thing is sleazy but thats the way it works. Coaches jobs and futures rely on these 18 year old kids.

One think is certain, he has stacked the deck on the offensive side of the ball. Any word on recruits? I see lots of new names the staff is contacting….no verbal commits though.

The offensive staff remains stacked…im pretty psyched about it.

I’m still worried about the defensive staff…seems weak to me. We’ll see, though…it may work. The offense is gonna be sooooo much more potent than any in the Big East (save maybe WVU, that will be an interesting match-up obviously) that I think the defense as merely a stop-gap for a highly productive offense might work…until more Big East teams move to a high powered offense…We’ll see

It is rather incredible to me that some grid fans and pundits are offended that Coach Graham MIGHT bring some Tulsa recruits to “Da Burg”. Where have these people been all these years? In some monastery? Why even “Mr. Clean”, Jim Tressel was wrapping up DB Prince from Woodland Hills last night at the very moment the Panthers were hosting the ‘Cuse” in a mamoth game. AND, the charming, ethical assistants under the venerable sage, JoPA were in the home of former Pitt recruit, Bill Belton. Do I like it? No, it grates me,but it is life in the big time. The fact that the Pitt staff is trying to recoup some losses and is trying to entice some new bodies into Panther pads is just reality, gentlemen. Get with it! Theft is just part of the game. It does not mean that all of a sudden Pitt has hired some used car salespersons. So go get ’em Pitt recruiters and keep your guys away from Pittsburgh turf you “bad guys” from rhe big money schools. We love ya Joe and Jim, but keep your soiled hands out of our pockets. Please! Rev. George from Columbus

Is Shawn related to Clark in any way, shape or form?

OK, get them a full tank of gas and out on the recruiting trail! With TCU coming into the BE in 2011, we better get our offense up and running on all 8 cylinders, because TCU is going to be the new Miami when they get here. They will be eating everybody’s lunch in the BE unless the offenses in the BE figure out how to put plenty of points on the board. Graham got here just in time. I wonder if Kolby Gray will be utilized to encourage future Texas recruits to consider Pitt. His enrollment raised an eyebrow in the first place. Now with TCU coming in and who knows if a future BE expansion might include another Texas school, Texas recruits now don’t seem so strange.
