Bowl Challenge Down to Two

Filed under: Admin — Chas @ 7:02 am

Forget the coaching search for a moment. There’s one football game left to be played, and more importantly a contest with the outcome not decided.

After everything, the Pitt Blather Bowl Challenge has only two people capable of winning the whole thing.

Presently leading is N.Caffas with a score of 442. He has Oregon in the BCS Championship with a confidence pick of 8 points. If the Ducks win, he finishes with 450 points and the win.

Only one entry can catch him — in other words picked Auburn and with enough confidence to beat 442 points. Lee in Altoona sits with 430 points, but picked Auburn with a confidence level of 15. An Auburn win would put Lee at 445 points, the win and my tailgating crew would never hear the end of it if this happens.

Needless to say: Go Ducks.

Y’know, Chas, I now feel compelled to root for Lee, lol.

I said this in an earlier post a few days ago. Peterson is to blame as if they would have given more thought to Bradley in the first place, we wouldn’t be having a discussion about coaching, recruiting, etc….Graham is a good choice, but you can bet 2-3 years if he wins 9 games gets him out of here and we are in the same position….. Please someone with knowledge on here please post why Pitt wouldn’t hire Bradley as H.C. and try with the money they save from Graham to get Austin on as D.C. ??? We would have 2 great recruiters, money wouldn’t be as much of a problem, and Pitt keeps a PA pipeline while picking up more ground from Florida which is a hotbed of talent. I really think most people on here are smart enough to know Bradley is in the drivers seat more than some realize as far as coaching goes at PSU. Make it happen to restore some faith in the program again, please…….

Maybe Bradley is the problem? Perhaps he is insisting on a clause in his contract that allows him to skip out and return to PSU if the job opens up?
I don’t know all the inside info on this, and I am naturally inclined to oppose any and all things Pederson, but to me the only problem with Bradley is the possibility of his quick departure back to Happy Valley.

The fact that he is a Penn State guy doesn’t matter – if he’s willing to coach here, he becomes a Pitt guy. Bo Schembechler was a Hayes assistant at OSU, and went on to be Michigan’s greatest coach.

I’m having a senior moment and need a refresher: In pre-season, Pitt was overwhelmingly picked to win the BE this past season because:

1. The talent that its coaching staff recruited was no better than the talent that the other schools recruited; however, the pollsters considered the Pitt coaching staff to be superior, or

2. With the talent that the coaching staff recruited, Pitt should have won the BE.

Not to worry. The new coaching staff will out-recruit the other seven (now eight) schools in the BE and will provide superior coaching. So instead of merely tying for 1st place, Pitt will consistently win it all and will consistently play in the BCS bowl games. The new coaching staff (whoever they may be) will validate what a great move it was to get rid of the DW regime.

Nothin against you Slus, but I will always root against the SEC (& ACC, Notre Dame & Penn State).

Since Graham ran the spread, and apparently is in the end stages of negotiating a contract to become Pitt’s HC, does Pitt have the players to execute that kind of an offense? Accurate QB, quick sure handed crisp route runners, an OL that can block speed rushers and handle the blitz? And if it takes more than a year for the offense to pick up the system, will our defense be able to stop anyone? According to Rivals’ depth chart, the defense will lose 9 of 11 starters after next season.
