Seriously, at the very least he has already lapped the field.

State police said a vehicle flipped over while travelling outbound on I-279 North near the Mcknight Road exit.

The car hit a jersey barrier and landed on its side in the road.

Two people were inside the car. One person fled from the scene while the other remained trapped inside.

Jamie Dixon, head coach of the Pitt men’s basketball team, witnessed the accident and pulled over to help get the victims out of the car.

The story has “raw video” from the accident. A little more than halfway through you see the back of Coach Dixon’s head in the ambulance. Then he emerges, walks out –looking fine — and gets to his car and drives off.

He was treated for minor injuries he received while assisting at the scene.

While this embellishes the great public persona of coach, this is not the initial or the bravest act of heroism by a Pitt coach. In the 80s, Coach Chipman and an assistant (forgot his name) were on a recruiting trip in Kentucky when they spotted a house on fire. The assistant coach actually went into the house and rescued someone, and was publicly honored for his heroism in a ceremony held by the city they were in (believe it was Lexington.)

It was Lexington and the assistant was Reggie Warford. See page 2 of attached ..pretty fascinating

On a sad note WTF is up with Charles Smith?

gc: If you’re referring to the shooting in Bowie, Md., that wasn’t Pitt’s Charles Smith. Charles E. Smith played at Georgetown in the late 80’s.

Why do you have to scare us like that… Thank God he’s ok. I hope the victums are doing fine to?

Um, could we pick up some karma from this incident? I’ll even help change a diaper today if it helps.

Thanks Greg, my reading is ok, comprehension not so much.

This man needs to stay at Pitt and be allowed to complete his legendary status.

Lee, I will bring the wipes. I want a final four appearance this year.

@wbb
That was a great story, thanks for posting it.
I don’t remember that being played up much by the local news tv stations back then(if even reported). I guess cause it involved Pitt and was a positive news story RIP Doc Chipman. FYI, Reggie Warford is Head Coach at Muhlenburg High School in western Kentucky. This will be his first year, Good Luck Reggie. I remember stopping at a traffic accident also with my boss outside of Orange, Virginia in a very rural area, around the same time period, late at night and after we pulled this fella out of his overturned car, we tried to keep him alive until the EMS squad came but were unsuccessful. Wow, I haven’t really thought about that for quite a long time.

Awesome story, and even better if the victims are doing well.

If I were creative, I would make some joke about what would’ve happened if Wanny had been the one to stop. Would’ve focused on clock mismanagement, indecision, etc. Oh well, can’t come up with anything.
