Just some things that I took notice or wanted to mention from the game.
Dan Hutchins’ punting is really improved. I was very impressed with the way he has placed the ball. He does, however, remain an untrustworthy force from outside of 40 yards. Two games and two misses from outside of 40 yards.
Kevin Harper has kicked the crap out of the ball on kickoffs. I have to wonder if/hope he will get a legit shot to at least take FGs from outside of the 40.
While the defense had a good day, overall, they came out once more looking flat. Just uninspired early. Even with the opening interception. The biggest worry is that the defense can either stop the run or stop the pass. They can’t seem to do both. It may be a factor in making the defense tentative. If they aren’t sure about what the opposing offense is going to do, they have to guess or hesitate to see what happens.
I don’t care if Savon Huggins or 5-star DEs and WRs want to commit to Pitt at this point, the only verbals Pitt should be focusing on getting and taking are offensive linemen. The interior line’s play is simply terrifying.
Tino Sunseri is performing well as the starting QB, but he is making two mistakes that even I could see. First, he tends to stare down his primary receiver, rarely doing check downs. Second, he almost exclusively looks to throw to this right. He doesn’t even glance left. I think the offensive coaches noticed, because when he came out in the second half, he stared all the way on the left and threw to that side. But he needs to use the entire field. Teams will start taking advantage of that.
Definitely saw much more of Sunseri’s mobility in the game. Very encouraging — and he’s going to need it this year.
Re-learned in just two games in that for all the talk of depth and talent stockpiled on the team, there is still a significant difference between even quality back-ups and the starters.
Parking is definitely more of a pain. Additional downside, with having groups spread out is that there is little incentive to hang-out afterwards and unpack all the gear. This only increases the amount of traffic trying to leave.
That being said, he has handled the situation with tremendous character, maturity and the attitude and mentality of a team-player and I commend him for that.
He blew a .178 on a breathalyzer, which is more than twice the legal limit. He hit a pedestrian, drove off, and was arrested when he parked a few blocks away. The pedestrian was taken to the hospital with a head injury, but there was no further information about his condition.
Dumb, dumb, dumb!
‘”Hey I play for Pitt football. … Please don’t arrest me,” Douglas told the officers, according to the affidavit.
Upon hearing this, the officers proceeded to not only arrest Douglas, but also beat him mercilessly while muttering something about a badly muffed kickoff against Utah.”
Ok, I made that second part up.
But seriously, just kick him off the team and give Todd Thomas a chance to step up maybe.
And I really hope that the guy he hit is ok.
Oh, and Shady was responsible for two of our biggest wins, not Bostick.
Idiots.
