CB Depth in 2011

A 4-star and one of the top recruits in Pennsylvania made his decision today. Kyoshen Jarrett did the hat thing. He had VT, Michigan, Pitt and Penn St. It was Pitt.

Jarrett is also the fifth Rivals250 prospect to commit to Pitt, along with Chestnut, Poteat, Paramus (NJ) Paramus Catholic defensive tackle Marquise Wright and Atco (NJ) Winslow Township receiver Bill Belton. This marks just the second time in the Wannstedt Era that Pitt has had five Rivals250 members. In the class of 2008, Pitt finished with five recruits in the Rivals250.

Rivals.com and Scout.com both have him as a 4-star recruit. They both rank him closely as the 13th and 16th, respectively, best cornerback prospect in the country. ESPN.com/Scouts, Inc. is not quite so high on Jarrett. Listing him as 32nd best and essentially grading him out as a 3-star (Insider subs). Still they say nice things about his talent.

Jarrett brings good size, closing speed and athleticism to the corner position. He has above average height and a well-built frame. Utilizes his size to his advantage out on the perimeter jamming and rerouting receivers aggressively off the line. Closes fast and strong. Shows good plant and drive skill. Effective blitzer off the boundary and can set the edge on run support. Does a good job fighting through the stalk block. Is a strong tackler and reliable in the openfield.

What the question ultimately seems to come down to in the evaluation is his overall speed.

This is probably a bigger blow to Michigan and ol’ DickRod than for Penn St. or VT. What with Turner leaving and now Troy Woolfolk out for the year. It hasn’t been a good time to be a CB associated with the Wolverines.

Jarrett is also a high character kid with a close family (via PittScript).

The alarm rings at 6 a.m., and the high school football star wakes up and checks on his brother.

Each day, Kyshoen Jarrett helps his brother get into the shower. He brushes his teeth and helps feed him. He changes him. And he takes him to the bus stop.

His older brother, Daishawn, is 19 and has cerebral palsy and is legally blind. He is

wheelchair-bound and needs help doing almost everything, relying on his brother and mother, Vinise Capers-Jarrett.

Often, when their mother is away during the evenings or part of a weekend, Kyshoen will take care of his brother.

The star football player wouldn’t have it any other way.

“I really don’t mind staying home and watching him when everyone else is partying. It just saves me from getting in trouble,” said Kyshoen, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound cornerback/safety hybrid.

“It’s definitely makes you grow up more. Most people think about it hindering me, but it’s really not. The more time you spend with him you realize how much of an outgoing person he is.”

Actually, Kyshoen said he is simply doing what any brother should. His two oldest siblings also helped care for Daishawn before moving out of the house.

And when there was talk of Daishawn leaving for a permanent care-giving facility, “Ky looked me in the eye and said, ‘Mom, don’t you dare do that. Our home would never be the same without him.'”

Looking forward to having him in the Blue and Gold next season.

There is one thing I worry about a story like that. While it shows that Jarrett is a great person, sometimes people so tied to their siblings find it incredibly hard to be away from them. Look at Elena Delle-Donne, the star basketball recruit who left UConn for Delaware to be with her CP sister. A great story as well but I’m sure Geno wasn’t too happy about losing her!

Employing my Algebra 80 skills, Pitt has already grabbed 1/3 of the top 40 PA commits.

Congrats to Dave and staff, and Hail to Pitt.

The DeMatha kid would be a great coup but his brother plays at Bama and he can pick ay school in the country. I would be happy with anat least two promising 3 stars OL to complete the class

Pederson f#$%ed us too – we added more people this year to our package, and added a parking pass as well. We went from Green 23 (our seats are on THAT side of the stadium) to 5 passes in Red 5 garage and 1 pass in Red 7B.

Looks like the master plan is allow only 1 outdoor pass per set of tickets, and force all your other passes indoors.

I am so sick of Pederson and his little schemes!
Why not tell people of this policy in advance so we can plan accordingly? Or, better yet, ask people if they would rather be in a tailgating lot or not – I’m sure there are people in the surface lots that don’t care one lick about tailgating, and might prefer to be in a garage.

Good Call WBB you can be a 2 Star recruit(Romeous)or 2 Star recruit (Gruder) and turn out just fine.

Comment by POLE 08.18.10 @ 11:32 pm

Patrick – They have Jason Pinkston at #35, maybe Lewis is in the top 10.

From what I’m reading the offense looked horrible during yesterday’s scrimmage.

The gnawing question may have finally been answered: The defense is that good.

Let’s hope.

Got screwed as well with parking passes. We have three groups that for the past 6 sixs were in green 23. This year we are all in different locations. 2 of them in garages and me in some blue lot that looks like Ill need to catch a bus to get from my parkings space to the stadium! As I said in the past , Pitts administration seems to do everything in the power to make it difficult and frustrating to actually attend a game. My situation now, I no longer want the pass they sent me. I can park in a place that I park at for work and its actually closer than my permit. I can bet when I call down there they are going to tell me they cant refund me. Like the above post mentioned, they at least could of notified people that there may be changes. Im sure there of plenty of family & friends who are now split up all over Pittsburgh for the games.

I went from Gold lot 4 …yes a Gold lot to Green lot 22… WTF? And I’m a 13 year ticket holder / panther club contributor! It’s BS

Comment by Marc 08.19.10 @ 9:38 am

We had the same, six groups that used to be in 7C that were scattered all about. I got moved into Red 7D, some into the Red 5 Garage, my sister and dad got moved into Blue 10, one guy got put into Green 22 (WTF).
Pitt said they can’t do anything about it for this year, as for why they didn’t mention it, the woman who works for Pitt, said they didn’t think it would be that much of a problem.

Comment by Twink 08.19.10 @ 9:46 am

Not this lists like the top 100 players really matter, but Pitt didn’t have any players on last year’s list… Now they will have four in the top 35.

Comment by Brian 08.19.10 @ 1:34 pm

i have parking in lot 23 green to trade for any outdoor parking on the east side of the stadium. i used to be in lot red 7c.
