Via ESPN’s Andy Katz’s Twitter:
News conference at Pitt this afternoon to announce coach Jamie Dixon — getting an extension. Not leaving for Oregon as expected.
And, exhale.
UPDATE (2:16): Press conference is set for 3:30 PM. Here’s the link to watch it stream live.
If anyone is feeling particularly masochistic, listen to local sports talk today in Pittsburgh to find out what anyone says in light of yesterday.
I’m pretty sure Dixon has gotten a few recruits over Pitino recently. And Cal recruits well because he breaks rules i.e., being the only coach to have 2 Final Fours taken away. Besides, I’d rather play byy the rules, consistently make the tournament and watch Wannamaker play for 4 years than see John Wall only play for one year at Pitt.
Zakman,
The less like Pitino and Calipari Dixon is the better. The last thing we need is our coach doing waitresses in bathrooms at restuarants and paying players to come to school. No thanks.
In NYC, public television channel 13 @ 10 PM (and likely nationwide at that time as well):
Featuring our own Travon Woodall!
Zackman,
Rick Pitino’s 9-year record at Louisville (four of which was in an inferior conference):
Overall: 220W – 85L (.721)
Conference: 96 W – 46 L (.676)
Jamie’s 7-year record at Pitt:
Overall: 188W – 54L (.777)
Conference: 83W – 35L (.703)
Maybe Jamie can express himself well enough to give Pitino some pointers on how to recruit.
Hope JD stays on as planned.
Kovalev to the Pens!
He is a great ambassador for the university. this is a great signing.
Per the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
“Terms of the deal were not disclosed, and Pederson would not say if Dixon’s salary will increase with the extension. Dixon was making more than $1.5 million in his previous deal, which ran through the 2015-16 season.”
Sounds like an extension with more money, translates to a “hefty” raise.
WOW looks like tution is really going up between Wanny and Dixon!!
Hopefully the next step is a BCS bowl bid and a final four apperance!

Hi Bigguy
Its ZakMan, not Zackman, and the point of my post was that Dixon is not a good communicator relative to his peers. It had nothing to do with his coaching ability. I am a huge Dixon supporter, but until he learns to talk a little smoother, he will continue to lose out on top recruits to the Pitino’s (and don’t kid yourself, before he slept with that waitress he did regularly out recruit Dixon) and the Jay Wrights, and the Roy Williamses, and the Bill Selfs, and the Jim Beheims, etc of the world. And haven’t we all been saying that having one or 2 more top recruits is all Pitt and Jamie need to finally break into the final 4?
