Live Blog: Pitt-Duquesne

Okay, you all know my feelings on the venue. The game is something different. This is probably Duquesne’s best chance to beat Pitt. They have more experience and probably better chemistry at this point.

If you want to break the liveblog out from the site. Click Here.

Otherwise, you can play along right down here. The fun starts around 7pm.

Please, for the last 13 years I make this plea after teaching foul shooting most of my adult life. Please, please please bring in someone to fix the FT problem! I cannot believe my eyes on the terrible form most of the Pitt players have at the line. When your legs go, it is only the form that will save you. Love you coach Dixon…just please fix this one thing!

Great job on the live feed!I enjoy the Blather very much. Stuff like yours makes this ‘older’ Pitt alum feel young again. I wish I had as much faith in Wannstedt as I do in Jamie!

Very sad news! Foge Fazio died from cancer, he was 71 years old. He was a great DC at Pitt in late 70s but was not a great head coach in early 80s. He also coached at Notre Dame and was DC for the Vikings in late 90s. His final job was part of the Pitt FB radio team.

He was a very good asst coach, so-so head coach .. but anyone who ever met him would know he was a great guy and a class act.

Just heard about Foge…he evidently had cancer.
So sad…what a great guy and he was a great ambassador for Pittsburgh as a city and Pitt Sports. Maybe one of the best defensive coaches ever. He probably wished he had a do over of the Cotton Bowl where we lost 7-3 to an Erik Dickerson and Craig James left team. Marino at QB and we only tried a few passes all day.

Rest in peace Foge!

Thank you Mr. Fazio for everything you did and for the influence you spread on this world. I never knew him but appreciate him for the great things he accomplished in life.

Foge was a Panther. God bless.

Foge was actually fired after a 5-5-1 and an overall 25-18-2 record, but being he took over a program that had 3 straight 11-1 records, and was pre-season ranked No. 1, it was considered a big disappointment Nontheless, he was a great defensive coach … and by all accounts, an even greater guy. I’m sure you will hear a lot of great tributes to him by many of the former Pitt greats of that era.

“anyone who ever met him would know he was a great guy and a class act.”

wbb, you said it! Foge was all Pitt, a tremendous representative. He will be greatly missed by the Pitt family and those who knew him.

As far as being a head coach, compare his W-L record to those that followed. Unfortunately for him, his record is compared to those that preceeded him. IMO, he had far greater character than some of those who preceeded him. Character matters.

Big Guy couldn’t be more correct on that “character” thing. Aside from pulling a Tiger Woods on his wife, Jackie Sherrill still owes bookies in the Pgh area. When A&M hired Sherrill, they actually sent a Texas oil man to the Burgh to pay off many of his gambling debts….so the rumors go.

When Foge was going through his 5-5-1 season, I wrote him a “hang in there” letter..he responded with a personal note back thanking me and reminding me that even in tough times, he was still proud of being a PITT guy!

Truly a class PITT guy!

Hail to PITT!
