Other than a cash cow for ESPN and the author, this is why you wait to write history.
Plenty of copies still available from this 2006 epic. The reviews, were awesome especially this one that links to the Ty Willingham specials.
You will forgive me if I don’t bother with much of the national media which is just working on the autopsy of Charlie Weis. It is the dominant storyline. It is the way it is. It was the big story going into the game and nothing changed. Here’s a fine fact sheet on Weis that was compiled before the loss.
Generally, the Irish fans are almost past caring. He’s done. Just fire his ass. Get a new guy (paging, Brian Kelly) — especially since Gruden seems to be staying in the booth. Weis even canceled his usual Sunday post-game presser for the first time since coming to ND.
ND isn’t going to make it easy to watch the coaching search. They are even blocking the tracking of their private plane.
That being said, I think I’m just going to enjoy the ride for the next few weeks and worry about coaching defections later…
Also, from the PG: The annual “Backyard Brawl” football game between No. 8 Pitt and West Virginia will kick off at 7 p.m. Nov. 27 from Mountaineer Field in Morgantown.
The game will be televised on ESPN2.
Sportsmediawatch.blogspot.com was expecting a 4.1.
Last years coverage this week for comparison was a 5.3.
ND v Washington State in primetime drew 1.4 two weeks ago.
I couldn’t find this weeks game yet.
Looks like it was a 5.41. Although these are not final numbers. It won the all important 18-49 for the night.
Please note that Pitt-Cincy game is the same day/night as the SEC and B12 conference championships. (also, the ACC) I assume that CBS has the SEC, and ABC/ESPN will have the rest … so I expect that they will be staggered, and thus the Cincy game may not be at night since the I believe the B12 game usually is.
highly sucessful at louisville, program builder great recruiter touch of pro experience. not sure age.
1) Pitt stopped itself more than ND did with errant passes, pass drops (including a TD juggled in the endzone) and 3 fumbled snaps. Stull played well enought to win but thought he may have been a bit tight.
2) conversely, Aaron Berry, who was panned on this site a year ago, was exceptionally good in the national spotlight and more than held his own against very talented receivers. Sure hope he is good to go against WVU.
3) this bye couldn’t have come at a better time since it will give the team time to settle down plus WVU is really smarting from Friday night. Sure, WVU will be still fired up but Pitt will certainly be re-focused by then.
I thought Stull did not look sharp for most of the game, but he did keep his head in the game, and it was great to see him sprint downfield to throw a block on Graham’s big run. I know I doubted him earlier this year, but there is no question he is the leader of this offense at this point.
The statement that Cignetti will be the Pitt coach next year would seem to be frivolous, however, I wouldn’t doubt that one of these long-term arrangements like a few other colleges have that designate him as Wanny’s successor may not be out of the question.
What an embarrassment for Cincinnati. If Pitt ever did this, I would be disgusted as a fan. I wonder what Brian Kelly thinks of this? ND sure as hell wouldn’t sell a home game.
