Okay, folks it is another noon game for Pitt after the bye week.

When Pitt hosts Syracuse, the game will be at noon but for the scattered alum the game is getting shown on ESPNU on November 7.

A noon start is one thing, but do we have to be subjected to another round of “Green Man” on the jumbotron?

At least make the guy wear a jockstrap or a cod piece.

Should be fun times for the rest of the season on Saturdays! Heinz Field should be near or over capacity with big games coming up. Let’s hope more then 10k people come out to see us whoop the Orange.

“Avg. Mountaineers IQ = 84”

Shot up from last year. Simply regression to the mean?

Comment by steve 10.26.09 @ 3:03 pm

question for those with verizon fios: are all games on ESPNU simulcast in HD on ESPNU HD?

Comment by GDF 10.26.09 @ 3:24 pm

Palmer from College Football Live has just said that Bill Stull is a legitimate Heisman candidate. I am still trying to digest all of this. You can’t really read too much into it since the Heisman race is too wide open right now, maybe down this year?. Still, congrats to Stull for being the QB with the biggest balls in the country.

Comment by Panthoor 10.26.09 @ 3:28 pm

yeah i just saw that, palmer is an idiot for other reasons. he claims that at the end of the year 1-loss usc should be ahead of lossless tcu, cincy, boise, and iowa cuz of their wins against oregon and arizona. boise beat oregeon, iowa beat arizona and ohio state, cincy beat pitt, wvu, oregon state, tcu beat byu, utah, uva, clemson and has a tremendous team. all these teams didnt have a letdown and didnt lose to a crappy 3-5 team like sc

Comment by Tony Cancilla (Huntsville, AL) 10.26.09 @ 3:52 pm

Cincy (0 loss) vs USC (1 loss): one common opponent — UC at Oregon St wins 28 -18. USC at home wins 42-36.

Cincy vs Iowa: Cincy has dominated everyone it has played – closest win by 10 at Ore St. Iowa beat No. Iowa by 2 and Ark St by 3, both at home, and beat MSU on final play of game.

Yet the Coaches Poll and BCS (which utilizes Coaches Poll) has both Iowa and USC above Cincy.

Comment by wbb 10.26.09 @ 5:29 pm

Don’t hate on Iowa. Their opponents are a combined 16 games over .500; to be undefeated over that schedule deserves a top-5 rank.
The problem is with TCU, USC and Boise. Does TCU deserve a ranking bump for beating BYU, whose best win was at mediocre Oklahoma and suffered a home loss to mediocre Florida State? OR USC, whose close home win over Oregon State is clearly a less impressive showing than Cincy’s win at Corvalis earlier this year? Or Boise, a team that hasn’t played anyone since the first game of the year, or are we just considering the WAC to be as strong as a BCS conference?

Comment by Kyle 10.26.09 @ 5:55 pm

don’t hate on Iowa? The winning record of their opponents include Northern Iowa, Arkansas St and Penn State, which was judged to have the 2nd easiest out-of-conference in the country. Also, Mich St lost at home to CMU.

Hawkeyes are a legit Top 10 team but don’t overrate the Big 10 … two weeks ago, Indiana loses to Virginia 47 to 7 .. a team that earlier this year lost at home to William & Mary.

Another noon game, another empty stadium.

Comment by Chris 10.26.09 @ 6:45 pm

just another convenient excuse .. funny how the noon start doesn’t seem to affect anyome else

Comment by wbb 10.26.09 @ 6:55 pm

in fact, you would be surprised at how many Big 12 games has had 11 am starts (Central time) during the years

Comment by wbb 10.26.09 @ 6:57 pm

If the South Florida game had been played on Saturday night at Heinz, don’t you think the attendance would have been between 55,000-58,000? After all, 55,000 showed up to see Pitt-Navy at night.

Comment by TonyinHouston 10.26.09 @ 6:59 pm

true, a night game would probably draw more … but these games are not night games so what are going to do about it … and the answer is apparently not show up.

Comment by wbb 10.26.09 @ 7:21 pm

seriously people show up! Are you kidding me when you say you aren’t interested in a Noon kickoff. Somehow the Steelers get a few people to show up for what is well pretty close to a noon kickoff?!?!?!

PITTSBURGH–Pitt senior quarterback Bill Stull, the most efficient passer in the Big East Conference, has been named a semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award, it was announced today by the Davey O’Brien Foundation.

Stull (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-LaSalle) is one of 15 semifinalists chosen by the Davey O’Brien National Selection Committee, which is comprised of journalists, broadcasters, commentators and former winners. Additionally, online fan voting accounted for 5% of the total vote.

Stull has enjoyed an exceptional senior season, completing 67% of his passes (132 of 196) for 1,654 yards with 16 touchdowns and only four interceptions. His pass efficiency rating of 161.09 ranks third nationally. Stull additionally ranks 23rd in points responsible for (13.25 points/game).

This is the latest accolade for Pitt’s 6-foot-3, 215-pound signal-caller, whose strong and steady play is gaining recognition nationwide. Last week he was named to the midseason watch list for the Manning Award, annually presented to the nation’s most outstanding quarterback.

Fans may now help determine which three quarterbacks will advance as Davey O’Brien finalists by voting as often as once daily at http://www.VoteOBrien.org. Fan voting will close at 1 p.m. ET on Nov. 22. Finalists will be announced on Nov. 23. The Fan Vote accounts for 5% of each round of the voting process.

Noon kickoff theory. For so many past years, to watch a Pitt game, it would take at least 3 hours of solid drinking prior to kickoff. The noon games made this a difficult situation compared to the later starts. Hence, the hatred for the noon games. With the start the team has had this season, there is more reason to attend the game than just the tailgate. Should be a decent crowd there, but not nearly as large as a Saturday night. Plus they are playing Syracuse who is not very good. Stevie P. should tell the Big East to stop putting them on the game of the week. He should then make all games start at 6 and promise fireworks afterwards. Every game would have over 55,000. Judging from the announcers they put on those Big East games of the week, I cant imagine they are paying Pitt much money anyway.

What’s wrong with Green Man? Him and Blue Man had a pretty entertaining dance-off. And Green Man had a cup on (I only know b/c he’s one of my buddies who I go to games with). Blue Man was the one who needed some support down there!

Comment by Panther Mike 10.27.09 @ 12:21 am

z-boy, once again, you present every excuse for not attending a game … once again, typical of the glass-half-empty approach by many Pitt fans.

I remember just 2 short moths ago when many on this own site (including its author) seemed incredulous that Pitt was pre-season picked as No. 1 in the BE by the media … BTW, few, if any, were mentioning Cincy as the favprite

Comment by wbb 10.27.09 @ 9:00 am

Every time I see Green Man I start to hear “Dayman! aaaaAAAAHHH! Figther of the Night Man! aaaaAAAAHHH!” in my head.

Comment by Shawn 10.27.09 @ 10:10 am

They should just sell beer in the stadium and that could chop an hour off of everyone’s tailgate.

Comment by Chris 10.27.09 @ 11:50 am

Noon starts are murder on us Pitt fans coming from 2hours+ away– tailgate or no tailgate. I still make every game, just would love to actually enjoy Slippery Steve’s pre-game “experience” for once… It is funny to me how many locals bitch about the start time…try coming from longer distances…

Comment by Pauly P 10.27.09 @ 12:38 pm

from what chris said, why doesnt pitt sell beer. almost every BE team sells beer in the stadiums, i bet the stadium would be louder come the 4th Q if they did.
either way, ill be there at 7!

Comment by mike 10.27.09 @ 1:37 pm

Pauly, did you ever consider how far many of the 110,000 travel to see PSU play … noon, 3:30 or 8? Pgh & Philly are over 3 hrs, NYC is 4 1/2, Balt & DC are nearly 4 hrs. They do have a captive audience in central PA but would also have to think that many travel a long way, even just to see Eastern Illinois.

Comment by wbb 10.27.09 @ 4:16 pm

wbb – once again you look way too far into people’s comments and pull out the wrong message. I attend all of Pitts games , regardless of times. Was just making a point about tailgating and tried to add a little humor to it (sorry if that part failed). Please dont categorize fans without knowing the facts. Even if we bitch a little, it doesnt mean we dont bleed blue and gold. I am a Pitt fan that attends all home games and makes at least one road game a year. This dates back to the 80’s & 90’s when I’d travel to see Pitt get pounded 60-7 by Ohio State or Notre Dame. Some of us fans have earned the right to complain a little.

As far as beer sells go. I saw recently in a newspaper that Univ. of Memphis started selling beer at their games. Its was mandated by the city of Memphis and not the university. In fact, it sounded like the university was against it, but the city said it would be very profitable. I forget how much extra money they said they made their first home game, but it was alot. Maybe we can get Onorato behind this idea.

Comment by Z-boy 10.27.09 @ 7:55 pm

I’m thinking they should sell beer starting at the end of the first half. Give people a chance to settle in and figure out what’s happening in the first half. Then offer 2 for 1 beers anytime PITT leads by more than 2 TD’s in the second half but only to those who show up at least 15 minutes early for the game. Free Jello shots too if PITT leads by more than 3 TD’s. Then a final free round of beer for everybody from 15-30 minutes after the end of the game. Whattayall think?

Comment by IronManEE68 10.27.09 @ 9:33 pm

Not sure if Pitt gets any money from the sale of concessions. I see no reason why Pitt would want the hassle of an extra 5,000 fans that showed up so they can drink at a game. Wonder how many of them would cause problems at the game.

Comment by joel 10.27.09 @ 9:41 pm

The last thing Peterson wants is Pitt games to become like Steelers games – not family friendly. That is another factor in why games are at noon – better time for families then dinner/ saturday nights.

His target audience may be incorrect but given the weak positive alum support, can you blame him? I mean, can Pitt fans be more negative? The Pirates get more love!
