New gear has arrived.
The press release (at least at the moment) has no pictures of the new football uniforms or any of the new unis for any sports.
“We are excited about our new partnership with NIKE,” Pederson said. “Most importantly, our student-athletes are thrilled to be wearing the NIKE brand. We are anxious to have our fans see the new lines of NIKE Pitt products as well.”
“The University of Pittsburgh is an outstanding institution with a rich sports heritage,” NIKE director of college sports marketing Kit Morris said. “NIKE is excited to become the official supplier of athletic footwear, apparel and equipment for the Panthers, and we especially look forward to outfitting all of Pitt’s student-athletes and coaches from its 19 sports programs.”
Given the Pitt store’s propensity to sell old gear forever (really? still selling an “iron bar” Pitt logo hat?) rather than eventually just ship it to a 3d world country to avoid confusion, count on being able to get older Adidas stuff for several more years.
Nike is doing the throwback gear. Just it now has a swoosh right in the front of the shirt rather than on the sleeve as Adidas did. That Nike subtlety.
New Uniforms? I need to collect my thoughts?
From that photo on WTAE’s website, it’s really kind of tough to see exactly what the gold color looks like, but it looks like they’ve flattened it out quite a bit…almost similar to what Georgia Tech did with theirs.
Kind of refreshing to see, especially when you look at the vertigo-inducing crap that Louisville just rolled out…
I will continue to wear my YSU game worn Shane Murray script throwback to games as a protest to Nike’s either lack of care in design or creativity.

a few things:
– all are healthy
– 2 chief concerns are tailback and kicking game
– Stull won spring comp, will come in as starter, but talked very positively about Bostick
– Todd Thomas to prep school, hope to get him in in Jan
– breakout year expected for Dorin D & Caregein
The new design is timeless, aesthetically pleasing, and maybe most importantly, legible.

I stand by my previous belief that there is very little downside to this move. He immediately provides depth at the point, and more importantly, probably allows Gibbs to focus on shooting guard. My guess is that Woodall will get first shot at earning the starting spot, with Adams being his primary backup.
In terms of the uniforms, I am also curious about the helmet, although I wouldn’t hold my breath about script on the helmets. I’d be happy if they just revert to having a stripe down the middle.
So I’ll start right now by wishing our team the best of luck. You have much talent and I hope our coching staff maximizes it.
HAIL TO PITT!
At least until after the Youngstown game. (Damn, last year’s opener was hard to swallow.)

In other news, great read on Pitt hoops…specifically the last part on Chase Adams…apparently they think he’s good enough to maybe win the starting job. I think its a great addition, competition is always good. Also, how many tournament games do we watch where guards from these smaller schools have big time talent and stick it to big time teams. It sounds like this kid could be a player like that: link to bebballreportpitt.blogspot.com
We looked like a high school team with and enormous “PITT” on our chests the last few years, these are much nicer.
I like the gold hue, the uniforms do look good.
Although I do love the subtle change in color. It sets off their eyes.
And that “iron bar” hat? Wow…that’s got to be about five or six years old now.
