As posted a couple weeks ago, Pitt now has the press release confirming playing Indiana at MSG on December 8 in the Jimmy V Classic. The game, of course, will be on ESPN and is the main event at 9pm. The undercard is Georgetown-Butler (which may very well be the game that actually features ranked teams).

No word yet on purchasing tickets through Pitt.

Down in New Zealand, the USA U-19 team had no trouble blowing Iran right out of the place with a 106-55 win. Coach Jamie Dixon made sure everyone played, and all but one player had double digit minutes (PDF).

Ashton Gibbs had a nice game. He played 20 minutes (tied for most on the team). He shot 4-6 (2-2 on 3s) for 10 points. He grabbed 2 rebounds and 2 steals. He had 4 assists (tied for the most) and 1 turnover.

Yes, it was only Iran and the USA should blow them out, but still a good start.

completely unrelated, but if anyone is curious to what shady’s contract is looking like then here you go.

The Spurs have interest in Rasheed Wallace, and the word is the feeling is mutual.. that could take away a big chunk from that 20+ min they predicted for Blair first season

I don’t think ‘Sheed on the Spurs would disrupt Blair playing 20 minutes a game. Sheed and Duncan start and Blair comes in as the first sub on the ront-line. Those two can play PF or C, and Blair will be down low because he isn’t the jump-shooting threat that Duncan and Wallace are right now. The Spurs are just a very well-run franchise. Blair gives them a quality second-string big man, but he is not a starter. Especially not right now. The pick was for depth not for an immediate starter.

My initial thought was that $3.47 mil for 4 years is not a particularly large amount, then remembered that he fell to the 2nd round. DeJuan will also suffer the same fate.

I’m not a big NBA follower and have no idea what Wallace has left in his tank … I do know that the Spurs were the worst rebounding team this year, so would be surprised if DeJuan gets his minutes, with or without Wallace.

looking towards the future, don’t be surprised to see D Miller starting along side of D Taylor in frontcourt this year. Just read where he got a double-double last night albeit against watered-down competition. He appears to be much stronger than Taylor or Zanna, and much more athletic than McGhee.

again looking forward, looks like Pitt will have a much easier BE schedule this year

Zagsblog is saying Holy Cross hired Sean Kearney.

Quote:
“KEARNEY TO HOLY CROSS

Notre Dame associate head coach Sean Kearney got the nod as the new Holy Cross head coach, according to a report by FoxSports.com. Kearney was chosen over Pitt associate head coach Tommy Herrion and ABA coach Rod Baker.

Kearney, 49, has been an assistant to head coach Mike Brey at Notre Dame for nine years. A press conference is expected Friday.”

wonder if Holy Cross won’t play any defense either …. not that I’m complaining, but I’m sure (selfishly) glad that Herrion returns

Welcome to PITT Andrew Carswell!

Freshmen in the starting line-up?!? Three scheduled games in the NYC area?!?…Damn, I picked the wrong season to quit drinkin’…

If you attended many Pitt games last season, it was pretty easy to guess, even just from warm-ups, that Miller was going to start this year. He’s got a strong body and looks comfortable with the ball.

Carswell is the 4th WR to commit, out of 11 total commitments for 2010 … while I believe all of them can also play DB

Ashton hit the first two shots of the USA/France game…5 points in his first 3+ minutes of play.
