I feel like there should be Facebook updates on this. “Levance’s groin feels good today, not so much in the tailbone.” I just don’t know. It’s like this injury is randomly moving around.

First it was a bruised tailbone. Then it was that he strained his groin. Now it seems to be some sort of sports hernia. The actual severity of any of these things is in dispute. One minute he can barely stand, the next he is good to go.

He’s sitting out practices, but there for games. It doesn’t help that Pitt and Coach Dixon have contributed to the confusion and questions over his status. Maybe they feel it is creating some sort of advantage. I don’t see it. Teams are going to prep assuming he’s healthy. It’s not like putting Gibbs, Wanamaker and/or Dixon out there instead is going to confuse them.

Yet Fields’ status barely gets a mention compared to Ty Lawson’s toe.  I guess, because at least Lawson’s injury has remained in one spot.

HA! Chas, you’re take on this was very funny to me… It puts a light on a very serious fear that many of us have– Is he going to be okay? And, can he drain the game winner against Duke in Boston?

In 1989, our first round opponent, Eastern Tennessee State University, also a 16 seed, came within a point of upsetting #1 seed Oklahoma.

Let the paranoia and overanalyzing of useless statistics begin!!!!

Fields played 37 minutes against UConn
Then plays 38 against WVU in the B.E. tourney.
Doesn’t make sense if his injury is that “bad”.
Why play him 38 gainst WVU in pretty much a meaningless game ? If his injury was that bad wouldn’t you rest him more ? The minutes he has played just doesn’t jive with a lot of he rumors. Esp the WVU game him and Sam both lead the team with minutes playe at 38.

JC’s Dad, are the same fellas playing for them 20 years later? If so they seem to be plumb tuckered out and are now ranked 113th by Ken Pomeroy having lost to such powerhouses as Stetson, Campbell Belmont and Lipscomb.

Hence the second line in my comment Steve, it was all a joke.

aw, sorry

It isn’t as though ETSU is a bad team. No one blew them out all year. They’re very capable of making things unpleasant for us.

Anyone else as pissed as me about the women’s draw? Seattle?!?! Gonzaga, the 12 seed, apparently got protected in our pod? That’s absurd. Meanwhile, Tennessee (a 5) got Bowling Green, Georgia (an 11) got Duluth, GA…etc etc. Of course, if we can beat Montana and then the XU-Gonzaga winner, at least we go to a fair site: Oklahoma City, to play #3 Oklahoma. That’s reasonable. Maybe if we go past that, we could play in opposing teams’ living rooms? Why not give other teams power plays, too? What a joke. Its absurd. Every damn year. The committee hates us.

(Okay, since I couldn’t rant about the men, and it’s my time-of-the-year to rant about the committee, I had to get that out of the way.)

The whole womens’ bracket is kind of ridiculous. 10 seed San Diego State gets to play in San Diego against 7 seed Depaul. If Depaul still manages to win, they get either Stanford or UC Santa Barbara. Stanford’s a 2 seed, so, sure, keep them in their state. But for the second highest seed to be at such an extreme geographic disadvantage is ridiculous. 8 seed Iowa gets to play in Iowa City?

Not to mention, Pitt has to travel more than any other 4 seed. Vanderbilt has to go 1300 miles, but the Pitt women have to go 2500. Besides that, Vanderbilt gets to go to Raleigh if they win while Pitt goes all the way to Oklahoma City. What baffles me possibly the most is that Cal, another 4 seed, is in the Trenton region, while Pitt is in the Oklahoma City region. I feel like, given that the seeding is the same, you may as well have Cal and Pitt switch. Or put Cal in Berkeley, Pitt in Trenton, Iowa State in Oklahoma City, and keep Vandy in Raleigh.

Also, maz, forget the ridiculousness of Tennessee playing in Bowling Green. 12 seed Ball State plays them in the first round! It’s only a 3 hour drive from Muncie to Bowling Green.

Good points all, JS. The fact that Pitt is going to, literally, the furthest sub-region on the board to play their opening games tells you all you need to know about the respect we got, even though we finished fourth in a really good league (okay, the best league) and played #3 seed Texas A&M tough (after losing a key player to injury in the opening minutes…Pitt kept that game close the whole way) and beating a #1 seed in Maryland?! Playing Louisville to the wire in the BET semis? It’s just a bit absurd to act like we’re the least deserving 4 seed and punish us to Seattle, where both the worse-seeded teams (Gonzaga and Montana) will have significantly easier travel schedules.

Just saw the following on ESPN from Andy Katz, referencing a phone call with Jamie Dixon on Monday:

“Pitt coach Jamie Dixon said he’s concerned about Levance Fields’ back and groin injury so much that he wouldn’t rule out holding him back from playing Friday in the first-round 1-16 matchup with East Tennessee State in Dayton to give him a few more days of rest.”
