2009 Football Schedule

Here’s the 2009 Pitt football schedule.

Date Opponent / Event Location Time / Result
09/05/09 vs. Youngstown State Heinz Field TBA
09/12/09 at Buffalo Buffalo, NY TBA
09/19/09 vs. Navy Heinz Field TBA
09/26/09 at North Carolina State Raleigh, NC TBA
10/02/09 at Louisville TV Louisville, KY 8:00 p.m. ET
10/10/09 vs. Connecticut Heinz Field TBA
10/16/09 at Rutgers TV Piscataway, NJ 8:00 p.m. ET
10/24/09 vs. USF Heinz Field TBA
11/07/09 vs. Syracuse Heinz Field TBA
11/14/09 vs. Notre Dame TV Heinz Field TBA
11/27/09 at West Virginia TV Morgantown, WV TBA
12/05/09 vs. Cincinnati TV Heinz Field TBA

I’m sure some more games will be added to TV. The NC State seems like a good possibility.

There are two Friday night games on the road this year — Louisville and Rutgers.

It’s going to be interesting from a standpoint of getting people to the games. While 2 of 3 games to start the season are at home, the first is a 1-AA warm-up. The Buffalo trip seems a more than a little scary. I can’t even begin to imagine what it would do to interest and attendance if the Panthers blow that one.

Only two of our first five games are at home…and one of those is Youngstown State. Not very intriguing from an attendance stand point. However, all but one of our last five games are at home. That will be a big advantage for the team. The worst news are those dreaded Friday night games. I can’t stand those and it reaks desperation for the big East.

11/27 at WVU is also a Friday, but is the day after Thanksgiving.

Eric, you said Friday night games reak desparation but the Thursday night games are made up mostly by other BCS conference teams including SEC. Is Friday more desparate because of high school fb?

Nonetheless, we have a very poor record on weeknight games — only win that I can remember in past several years was USF this year.

I remember hearing last year that the ABC Big East Game of the Week (noon kickoff) is over and done with. I heard that ABC is going to have an SEC game of the week. Can anyone confirm this? I hope so! Cant do another year of 7AM tailgates!

Good news for someone I hope- I have one extra ticket to the UConn game tomorrow. It cost us $150. It could be worse considering some of the EBay prices.

If you’re interested, please email me at silverpantherinnyc@hotmail.com. Leave your number and I will call. Cheers!

Agreeing to a long term home and home with Buffalo is far worse than the indignity of playing Friday night.

If Pederson is responsible for the Buffalo series, as well as the continued I-AA fiascoes, he may as well be fired, because he’s no less worthless than Long at his primary job, which is a good football schedule (and as bad as Long was. at least he secured the ND series, guaranteeing at least one home sellout every other year besides WVU).

Pederson’s return has been a real disappointment in that regard. I know the 12th game has made everyone work harder, but others such as Cuse and WVU has done far better (LSU, etc.). The only reason we have NCSt and Miami and VT coming up is because of the ACC lawsuit. Otherwise no doubt we’d be bringing in even more 1-AA and selling out to the MAC. I really thought Pederson would get out there and outhustle the others to get us some better opponents.

Of course the answer lies within the conference itself. ADD MEMPHIS ALREADY! NO MORE FRIGGIN’ YSU AND CITADELS!

Geeman, I think the out of conference opponents are still Jeff Long’s. But wait until 2013:

2013 9/14 Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA
2013 9/21 North Carolina State Heinz Field
2013 10/26 Navy Annapolis, MD
2013 11/9 Notre Dame

That’s an absolutely awful schedule.

Not a single game worth attending for casual fans until November.

There’s a reason why college football isn’t traditionally played on Friday nights (I’ll even take high school sports out of the conversation). I know I don’t watch games. Of course as a Pitt fan I have interest. But as a college football fan in general, I have no interest in spending three hours in front of my tv on a Friday night. I know I’m not in the minority here and the numbers would show that. The Big East gets little interest on Saturdays from the networks. The league is what it is in football…and it’s not by choice. So, to try and make up for the league’s shortfalls, it (and when I say “it” I mean the Big East and not Pitt) schedules games on Friday nights. I don’t think any of this is a secret. By the way, which weekend is homecoming?
