LiveBlog: WVU-Pitt

Just a reminder of how this works since it has been a while.

The liveblog is a moderated chat. That means I will be approving comments. Keep it relatively clean.

In the interest of keeping it from bogging down, not all comments will get through. Especially the repetitive ones. It isn’t personal or about censorship. It’s that 5 consecutive comments that say “wow” or something similar on a great play hardly adds much.

I find that Google Chrome is the best way to use the CIL live blog. I’ve never had to reboot or crash that browser.

The live blog will Right Here.

so far WVU shooting well, Pitt has too many unforced turnovers, and neither defense is impressive

under the ‘taser’ chant for Fields but couldn’t make out the chant when Blair was at the foul line

Bradley, slow it up, slow it up, slow it up … nice pass!

good final 2 minutes exceopt tip at buzzer

no fouls on Blair, and Nasir continues to contribute

what are they saying when blair is on the line?? sherry?

Comment by pitt is it 01.25.09 @ 5:02 pm

that’s what it sounded like but not sure.

who was the favorite for this game?

Comment by w bill 01.25.09 @ 5:08 pm

impressive win; great team effort.

Blair, Young and Dixon played great but can’t think of anyone who played poorly. Brad didn’t have a good 2nd half but played very key role in 1st half when Sam was sitting

Pitt is getting better and better. getting the bench more playing time is going to make us that much stronger. Great game today

That was a very nice win. Pitt never seemed to get rattled. Levance didn’t seem to mind the “taser” chant. Should be #2 or #3 at worst tomorrow.

That was a really good win. WVU struggled to score the whole second half and I attribute that to in-your-face D from Dixon and the rest of the crew. I also liked what the announcer said about how Young got his pts in the 2nd half — “all in the flow of the offense”. He was right about that….Sam wasn’t forcing, he was just taking what was there, whether it was a baseline post-up or a drive and he didn’t settle for 3s.

The other announcer-related thing that never came up during the game and should have was the absence of Mazzulla. I had forgotten that he was hurt and his absence really hurts the Hoopies. He was kind of the heart of that team…..hustling, driving, drawing fouls etc. etc. Butler is a decent scorer, but Mazzulla was their only penetrator who could get to the hoop and score.

You have to like how the Panther’s remaining schedule is shaping up….many of the tough match-ups are at home and you’ve got Depaul twice, Providence, Cincy and Seton Hall sprinkled in there. I also think Nova and ND were rated way too highly earlier this season……..

Had to listen to the game on radio today. Heard an obnoxious Pitt fan screaming entire game through Hillgrove’s microphone making ridiculous commments to referees. Surprised someone on Pitt’s bench didnt turn around and knock him out. Had to be annoying.

the telecast showed one the WVU students being shown the door at the request of one of the refs — John Sanders was across the court from Hillgrove in front of the hoopie fans. Maybe Hill grove didn’t realize that the fan was interrupting the broadcast, but someone in the truckr (if there is a truck) should have said something — I would expect the fan to tone it down if Hillgrove or Groa said something to him

Back to the trailer park hoopies. And you’ve still got nine or ten weeks of winter weather left…..

The #2 ranking would be fitting but Uconn will probably take it. No big deal, we will just have to keep winning. This team is amazing and the best Pitt team I have ever seen.

I enjoy watching Pitt. They play as a team. Some of the feeds are really things of beauty. For the most part, they are unselfeish. They have great leadership,

What do you all think the way Georgetown is playing right now, makes Pitt’s win against them earlier in the year seem less impressive?

Personally, I like to think the Panthers personally, that the Panthers’ beating on the Hoyas took so much wind from Georgetown’s sails, they’re been shaken to the core.

Comment by Colt Convert 01.26.09 @ 8:28 am

There is nothing wrong with Georgetown, they are just a streaky team. It seems that they and Louisville have a stretch each year where they play like garbage, surrounded by periods they play really well.

This one sort of snuck by me in the Post Gazette, I guess we dont have to worry about Smith in our QB mess:

Pitt Football: Pitt QB leaves team
Sunday, January 25, 2009

Pitt reserve quarterback Kevan Smith, a Seneca Valley graduate, has left the football team and will instead play for the Panthers’ baseball team. He was a minor league prospect in baseball coming out of high school.

After three seasons, Smith, a redshirt sophomore, had not progressed and coaches had asked him to move to tight end heading into spring practice.

Two other players with eligibility remaining who are not expected to return are linemen John Bachman (Moon) and Scott Corson (Johnstown).

Comment by Rex 01.26.09 @ 9:06 am

this frees up 3 scholarships for next year from players likely to see little action (except for maybe Bachman)

Notes from the Senior Bowl you may find interesting:

– Pat White was game MVP including a 39 yd TD pass

– Rashad Jenning led in rushing 9 for 41

– Scott McKillop tied for second with 7 tackles (5 solo)
