This Makes Me a Little Nervous

Okay, I guess some of the freshmen guards will get a lot more work in practice early.

Pitt point guard Levance Fields is recovering from bone graft surgery on the foot he injured last season, and is expected to recover in time for the team’s season opener in mid-November.

Fields missed nearly seven weeks after breaking a bone in his left foot Dec. 29 during a game at Dayton.

A spokesman says Fields had the surgery last weekend and now faces about eight weeks of rehab.

Organized practice starts on October 17.

What makes me nervous was the need to get additional surgery, months later. The possibility that this injury lingers and slows him down seems possible.

I think this is normal, don’t fret 🙂

I’m not too concerned about this either. Pitt won’t have a very challenging early non-con, and Brad Wanamaker knows enough of the offense to run it, and he’ll have an experienced guard in Jermaine Dixon as well as a very good freshman in Travon Woodall to help him out in the early few games if Levance isn’t at full strength.

He has over 2 months to get better, so he should be OK. I feel your worry though, because I want things as normal and perfect as possible. Woodall and Wanamaker will need to step it up if Fields has a rough start due to any lingering pain.

I’m worried… I never heard anything about additional surgery. He came back last year and played/was played by the staff without fear of injury. Was this a planned step that was just omitted in reports to the media? I hope so. I’m not worried about Wannamaker getting us through the early games if necessary, I’m just concerned about possible surprise developements with Fields.

Count me too as concerned…wtf? Where did this come from? I’m glad he has time to recover in the early year…in the non-con…but our backup is who? We’re still going to get a run at us by a lesser team in a non-con game, and we’ll need him to be in the game.

I’m praying this doesn’t turn into a lingering injury…i’m hoping this surgery wasn’t because of pain or a re-injury…

I am not concerned either. I agree with merlin. Pitt’s non-conference schedule is not tough at all so the freshmen guards can get a jump on the system and even though Brad Wanamaker is no Levance Fields, he knows the system and he is good enough to run the offense and let Sam and Dejuan get the points. The only big question is, where else are the points going to come from? Gilbert Brown must score this year and hopefully one of the freshmen can come in and give us 10 points a game.

I mentioned last year that this was a complicated injury with possible problems down the road, hopefully there will be no more problems but the foot bears the stress of the entire body and this is an injury that will bother Levance for the rest of his life.

Not the best news. Hopefully his recovery is without incident and he doesn’t gain too much weight. Glad he had the surgery in August.

[…] previously noted, Levance Fields has had setbacks in coming back after some additional surgery on his foot. It’s slow coming, and he is still expected to be ready for the start of the […]
