It is kind of funny that Carolina traded with Philly to get Otah since earlier in the week Philly said they were going to try to trade up (possibly with Carolina) to make sure they got Otah.

Wanny ball also landed the guy who was picked right after Flacco. Guess going to Pitt worked out for him to. What was Wannstache supposed to do, bench Palko? That wasn’t going to happen regardless of the coach. Wanny ball has had two players drafted in the first round in consecutive years. He is doing just fine.

Not a single State Penn or WVU player drafted in the first two rounds…i can’t believe it…especially when they both tell us how great their programs are…unbelievable…

Anyone who thinks choosing Palko to start over Flacco was a big mistake based on yesterday’s NFL draft result clearly does not understand the reality of the sitution at Pitt when that decision was made and Flacco subsequently transfered. Palko had to run for his life due to woefully inadequate pass protection all that season. A classic pocket passer like Joe Flacco would have been eaten alive. To have started Flacco, who was also very inexperinced at the time, over the more experienced and more mobile Palko would have been a complete disaster and an incompetent coaching decision. Despite his ultimate pro-potential due to his height and strong arm, Joe Flacco simply wasn’t a viable choice for Pitt to start back when Palko was the other choice. Now, last year we surely could have used that older, more experienced, Joe Flacco. Had he been around as a senior with Bill Stull as his backup Pitt might have gotten 3-4 more wins, a nice bowl game, and the inexperinced Smith and Bostick would not have needed to see the field so prematurely.

Back to the original thread, which is congratulating our most current Panthers, congrats to Mike McGlynn as well.

What did tyler palko do wrong? If i remember right he had a pretty good college career? Palko had an offensive line that was non existent while he was at pitt…. You have to be joking if you think by starting flacco pitt would have been any better. Tyler palko was a very good college quarterback

Mike McGlynn drafted by my hometown Eagles, awesome. I hope he has a really solid career for us, Andy Reid loves those linemen who can play all over the O-line, he should definitely stick with the team.

Palko did absolutely NOTHING wrong as a QB and only the arm chair revisionists will say different. They do not understand the realities of the situation. Unfortunately it seems too large of a section of our fan base is made up of these morons that you have to constantly correct and make look like fools.

Joey–don’t forget you play 5 OL at a time and OL is one area of a team where both quality and experienced depth are of utmost importance. Two NFL drafted tackles do not necessarily equate to having the overall quality, experience and depth required at all 5 spots for a top notch OL. Add to that the fact that commentators on the draft indicated that Otah was drafted mostly on his potential due to his measurables (noting that he still has a lot to learn having started playing FB later than most kids) than on his current level of skill. McGlynn, who was taken further down in the draft, is seen as a better candidate for guard and liked for his potential versatility to play different OL positions (meaning he is seen as a bcakup in the NFL?).

Then there is this analysis of the Ravens draft from Yahoo Sports (does any of the analysis of Flacco sound familiar?):

Bottom line: C. There’s a lot of excitement about Flacco, who has a cannon arm. But look at the history of the league: QBs who are taller than 6-5 generally aren’t very good. They can’t move fast enough to avoid hits. Flacco lumbers when he moves and he’s making a big jump from Delaware. Good luck. Rice is a very good backup to Willis McGahee, and Gooden is a much better player than he showed at Miami.

I guess i also need to be a mechanic to diagnose a flat tire.

PS. It is well known how “intelligent” Morelli is. I’m not reporting new news here….just tying it to how worthless a State Penn degree is.

I post on this site with various handles to add some humor, yes, I am a Pitt grad, and you, on a few occasions have hurled implied insults my way.

My problem is that you constantly hammer others with personal insults. If Anthony would have went to Pitt your view would have been much different.

Remember, Pitt recruited Anthony and really put the press on him to become a Panther, if Morelli would have went to Pitt and picked up a diploma … just trying to say, don’t hammer without thinking it through.

Go to a game and support your team, during games over the football season you outpost everyone two-fold.

My first impression from Morelli was that I saw him at a couple of times at Pitt ganes when he was a HS senior, and both times he he wore a Penn Hills jersey with his name on the back … and I thought “Boy, what a hotdog!”

Not 100% on Strong, but Joe Clermond went to Chicago as a free agent and Darrell Strong signed with Oakland. No idea about any other undrafted seniors.

Don’t understand the instults lobbed at Greg Lee…i think everyone will admit he made a mistake and got some bad advice from an awful agent – i don’t recall anyone saying he should have been drafted in any certain round.

Regarding the ’09 mock draft, I completely forgot that Shady will be draft eligible after next season. Hopefully the team will be good enough this year that he’ll want to stick around for a little longer.

lets hope shady and others like him end up staying for the college experience, the chance to earn a degree and the opportunity to win a national championship. Why are these kids so eager to grow up and become adults in the real world? Well, the answer is money of course but many of these kids never grow up. That is a disgrace to the collegiate ranks and NFL. Ultimately, it is up to those individuals to shape up but the system sure the hell doesn’t try to stop these kids from bolting too soon. They make tons of money for these schools and are playing in the minor leagues for the NFL. Pay them for it and lets stop pretending there is such a thing as a scholar athlete.
