Really not sure what I feel like saying about the Rutgers game. I’m more of the opinion of McKillop.
“You can’t put the game in the referee’s hands,” middle linebacker Scott McKillop said. “You’ve got to take care of the game yourself. It can’t come down to the last second.”
Pitt offensive tackle Mike McGlynn added, “It’s a disappointing call, but, like coach Wannstedt said, we had so many opportunities to win that game. It doesn’t come down to just one play.”
As Pitt is assured of another losing season versus 1-A opponents one of Pitt’s recruiting targets — Tight End Hubie Graham has chosen to verbal to Illinois. He had made his official visit to Illinois on a night they lost to Michigan, but he got the LeSean McCoy treatment.
His warm reception from the sellout crowd of 57,078 and the fact that the Fighting Illini played without a tight end because of injuries helped Graham make his decision.
“I’m thrilled,†Graham said. “When I was in the airport the fans knew who I was. The student section chanted my name at the game. All that stuff felt great. They have a great fan base and great support.â€
Actually building to a winning record and bowl game helps along with seeing the possibility of early playing time (and having the ball thrown his way).
the rb/lb that is going to um, now that carr is gone, why sit and wait to play?
I would say every spot but Mccoy and some dl, te & d. kinder is up for grabs.
The big problem this year is they have no confidence what so ever in the qb position, Bostick is just not ready for D1 football, he is about 20 pounds over-weight, his footwork is horrendous and his throwing motion is just terrible. I think MC is just afraid to utilze the entire playbook with Bostick. Bostick is a marginal d1 qb, there is upside to his potential but only time and good coaching will tell.
The MSU, UL, Navy and Rutgers games were all winnable games, we were so close but yet so very far away. Next year is the litmus test with Wanny, no bowl game no more Wanny.
What me worry?
Stuart, my man, how is it hanging?
I agree on Bostick. I would really like to see Stull back next year and starting. This year is in the shitter.
This is a WEST COAST OFFENSE which by its nature doesn’t rely on deep balls. Yes, the offense should stretch the field to some extent but it is clear that the coaches were calling a game that the QB could execute. Sure they could have demanded the QB look deep but chances are an INT would result.
This team has no margin for error, so the coaches have called plays to maximize what we can do – though it seems this year that even 5-7 yard passes are Herculean tasks at times.
I don’t buy this “putting the game in the refs hands” garbage. Reserve that for when you don’t catch a ball and are praying for a call to go your way so that you get another shot. We didn’t put it in the refs hands – we put it in Bostick and Turners hands. And they came through. They made the play to win the game. They stepped up and got the touchdown, unlike every other time this year when we couldn’t. Then the refs stripped it from us, totally fuct us, and we weren’t able to win it twice.
According to anyone that says that, the entire game is “in the refs hands” because they can take away TDs at any point they want. That’s a total inapplicable bullshit argument and makes no sense in the context of what happened. We didn’t need the refs help – we just couldn’t afford to get screwed by him. And we did.
On McKillop: How is it Dan Connor gets all this press about “greatest LB Evvvaaarrrr” and he isn’t even the best in the state he plays in? To the numbers (McKillop first, Connor second – and remember McKillop has played in 2 less games too):
total tackles rank: #1 vs #9
solo tackles rank: #2 vs #34!
same number of ints (McKillop in 2 less games)
assist tackles for loss: 4 vs 6
solo tackles for loss: 3 vs 11
sacks: 3 vs 6.5
passes defended: 7 vs 6
forced fumbles: 1 vs 0
The big thing that sticks out to me:
In 8 of 10 games McKillop has 7 or more solo tackles, 80% of the time.
Connor has only done that in 3 of 12 games, 25% of the time.
Plus McKillop has to get it done by himself without the benefit of another above average lineback playing next to him (notice #2 in solo tackle – whereas Connor needs help from others, coming in at #34 for solo tackles). Plus our lack of agressive defensive philosophy…this isn’t even close.
What a joke the “Butkus Award” has become when they decide who can win it before the season has even started…someone find a better LB in the nation with more impressive stats…
On QBs, I want to see the better of the two QBs playing next year, whoever that is. There are 9 months for Bostick to get his shit together. I hope its a close competition.
Its not that the coaches don’t want some sort of “passing attack” to “attract recruits”…or maybe, say, “win games”…its just we have no QB capable of that so far. From what i’ve seen i agree there is not much of a reason to let Bostick wing the ball down the field 2 or 3 yards short on every throw and give up a ton of picks. And how many bounce passes did he throw on 5 or 10 yd passes saturday? On the other hand, he hasn’t thrown a pick in how many weeks now (except when its the last play of game and they have no choice at all)? At least he isn’t killing us, and we’re in games – and that’s on the coaches gameplan, not him. Bravo.
We’re a handful of plays from being 8-2. Hopefully the kids and coaching staff build on that and next year all the bounces go our way. What will be most telling I think is if we’re “same old Pitt” and lose a bunch of close ones. Progress from here is winning those games. The only way we can say we’ve had progress next year is if we get to a bowl game.
I’m done now. Later.
Dicicco has been wasted. He should be starting. Even next year don’t be surprised to see Fields/Thatcher instead of Fields/Dicicco.
Walt supposedly left the cupboard bare, but wannstedt would rather play the seniors instead of the more talented younger guys.
I hope you guys like seeing Lucas Nix get redshirted.
He’s on Youtube. link to youtube.com

Go troll another site.
Hopefully Dwight shows improvement like Gray did. Guess we’re done with the recruiting for this year.
…or come back a month before our game…what kind of stupid diagnosis is that?
Wanny can get an extension but until we start winning games & going to bowls again our recuiting is going to suffer big time and in regards to WR, QB, or TE position I think we are a very hard sell to a pro prospect.
