The early signing period is underway. Nasir Robinson and Travon Woodall have both signed their letter of intents. Ashton Gibbs is expected to sign his very soon.
Both Robinson and Woodall are tough, defensive minded players.
John DeGroat does not have the quickness of an NBA player. I don’t know who you were watching. Pitt has had zero to very few players that I would call “quick”.
Why so confrontational Chris? Damn.
I was going to add JP as one of the few Pitt players that have been quick. I feel this is what has held us to the sweet 16. Pitt has never really had quickness in their guards.
Playing both Fields and Ramon together is not a great strategy. They are both below average in terms of height and Ramon is an average, at best, defender against athletic guards. I would prefer if Ramon came off the bench and either Benjamin or Wannamaker started with Fields. Unfortunately I don’t think we are going to see a change. At least Ramon can shoot.
Nasir Robinson was a top-50 player not too long ago. He has great size, is a strong rebounder and plays very tough defense. Many smart basketball people say he is an excellent player. Pitt targeted him very early and got the committment.
Gibbs I know nothing about, other than he is a great shooter. The staff probably recruited him because Ramon is graduating.
This would have been a top-15 class if Vargas committed. Even without him it is a strong group of players.
2 = Gilbert
3 = Cook
4 = Young
5 = Blair
6 = Oakland Zoo
As for Robinson, he will be the man taking over for Cook. If Young stays for his senior season the 3-4-5 spots look like this:
Robinson
Young
Blair
…enough said.
This is a good recruiting class, not a fancy one on paper but very underrated. The fact that we have some PA kids signing can’t hurt. All it takes is one sick Philly guard to sign and Pennsylvania belongs to Pittsburgh. Very well played by Dixon, just give the man some more time.
I guess I’m just still disappointed we didn’t get Vargas.
BTW I haven’t seen this I’m guessing walk on freshman, Frye, but how does he look out there?. He seems to be making the most out of his very limited minutes. Does anyone think this guy can compete for more minutes?
another example of dixon’s inability to close on a player?
Fields
Wanamaker
Brown
Young
Blair
C McKillop is injured, Romeus gets the start and most of the plays…
