Sure of Being Unsure

Treading very lightly, now. No one seems to be sure of anything regarding Pat Bostick.

“He’s a talented guy and very smart, so he must be going through something very serious,” [LeSean] McCoy said. “I’m here to support him, just like his other teammates, (in) whatever he’s going through. … I don’t know what it is. Whatever it is, I just support him.”

There’s no timeframe for his return. Some reports are that he might be returning next week (unfortunately nothing on the WGAL website at this time). Paul Zeise in his Q&A today suggests darkly that it might be quite a while.

A big news day, but probably not a good news day, for Pitt as Pat Bostick, the heralded quarterback recruit from Manheim Township, has left camp for personal reasons and is not likely to return in the near future.

I can’t tell you whether he’ll be back or not — though I think it was made pretty clear to me that coaches aren’t anticipating him getting back any time soon — but to me that is not relevant right now. Regardless of what happens, I just hope he is OK and I’d say that’s what everyone should want for him as well.

Coach Wannstedt really didn’t have anything to add to in his remarks this afternoon (no surprise), except that the team still supports Bostick. Speculation will, unfortunately, continue.

I’m hoping for the best with Pat, but in case it does become a worst case scenario, do we have any latitude with Pryor, or are we off his list for good? Do these situations only happen at Pitt, or do I only pay attention to situations like this because I love Pitt?

I see a red-shirt in the very near future for a certain QB, unless Stull sucks nuts and we have to replace him after a few games. Right now it looks like we’ll see Bostick starting as a sophomore in 2009 with 2 years watching from the sidelines, and 3 years of eligibilty left… All Billy has to do is not screw up too bad or get injured for the next 2 years and he gets his wish to be the starter…its his job to lose now.

And when will we find out what happened…when i read its “not family-” and “not football-” related, then what the hell does that leave? Panic attacks sound football related. Hell, anything the kid does, including what he ate for breakfast and if his shit is normal is now football related. He’s a kid with huge expectations on a national college football team.

Honestly, i just can’t figure out what the hell could have possible happened on MEDIA DAY. They hadn’t even hit a field yet FCS! What comes loose on media day, when you’re not even talking to the media because your a freshman and you haven’t had a first real practice yet! This is totally confusing.

If it is panic attacks, I really don’t care as long as they never effect his performance in a game.

He is still young, he’s only 17/18, and i can remember how traumatic it was going to college for the first time, being away from everything i’ve known. And 1000s of people weren’t watching over my every move either.

And here come the vultures:

You hear? This is our fault because we ran Joe Flacco out of town.

I just want to know how the fuck we’re supposed to keep all the Flaccos and Getsys of the world happy. Are we supposed to run a 2 or 3 qb system so that no one leaves? Come to Pitt, we run this shit like a little league game – everyone plays! What a joke.

Then again, it worked for Florida, so maybe we are the dumb ones here…. ACTUALLY, maybe we should put 2 QB’s on the field at the same time! They can both start! Trick plays on every down!

It’s not like he SHOULD have played. Palko was better I’m sure. This isn’t like an Andy Allenman issue where he WANTED to play Oline, we had a CRAPPY OLine with plenty of opportunities for him to play, and Walt STILL didn’t play him there, so he transferred. Only to be drafted fairly high. I’ll believe it when I see it with regards to Flacco being draft.

The Bostick situation is indeed disturbing. No doubt. He’s an enormous recruit for us. I think the Pryor ships has sailed, which is too bad. Because if Bostick is out of the picture, Pryor could come in here with all the weapons he could ever want, some stud young linemen, and do some serious damage.

Jerry Nit-co of the Post-Gazette strikes again. “Write me some hatchet pieces on this Bostic thing. Yes, that’s right, continue misspelling his name, too.”

In between all the fluff articles about Paterno wanting bye-weeks “for the kids.”

Wow…If we’ve arrived at the point where we’re pining for Joe F’ing Flacco – a Division I-AA potential All-American – then Pitt really has no business even thinking about a bowl game this year. Smizik is off his rocker completely with this. I understand Stull isn’t the second coming of Dan Marino, but good crikey, the kid has had two full years to sit and digest this new system. He’s probably going to have a better line in front of him than Palko had. He’s got an established receiving corps that many believe is among the best 10-15 in the nation, not just the Big East.

Everything I’ve heard seems to suggest that Pryor wants out of Pittsburgh. I know it doesn’t really explain the fact that he’s still got WVU on his list, although perhaps in that case he feels he could make an exception because of the offense they run. WVU’s offense is probably more suited for his game than Pitt’s. I’m not holding my breath on Pryor at all.

Ricky Williams, take 2. This stuff always seems to happen with Wanny. You think maybe it speaks more about the coach than the players?

Comment by Joshua 08.08.07 @ 1:24 pm

Ricky Williams did the same thing to three coaches. Wannstedt wasn’t the only one who was fooled by that drug addicted loser.
