Speed, Speed, Speed

Not to mention getting involved in the Maryland and Virginia recruiting areas. Those seem to be the most noticeable factors in the verbal of Ronald Hobby.

Not only is Hobby from an area Pitt has targeted – Panthers receivers coach Aubrey Hill recruits Maryland, Northern Virginia and Washington – but he has been consistently timed at 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash.

“He’s a burner,” Scout.com recruiting analyst Bob Lichtenfels said.

He’s also not lacking for confidence.

“I’m electrifying,” the cornerback/receiver/return specialist said. “I think that’s the best way to say it.”

He did have offers from BC, VT and Syracuse. As a 1 to 2-star “athlete,” he’s a project who would likely see most of his early action on special teams.

Ok…why should i/we be excited? If this kid is only going to return punts and kickoffs…what’s the point, don’t we have guys that do that already? Shouldn’t we have saved this scholarship for a better player. I like the kids attitude….but come on 1-2 star player at best…there has to be better athletes out there that Pitt can win over than this kid, no offense Ronald.

Did it occur the “recruiting services” may have it wrong on this kid?

Anyone remember a guy named wille parker? 5’10 runs a 4.3 in the 40? Nobody thought he was any good…

How about a DB coming out of HS that was 5’11, 180 and ran a 4.3? Returns for the bears now, named Devin Hester?

I’ll take the word of a couple of football coaches that have seen this kid run a 4.4 over these pencil jockeys…

Not sure college fans should cite Willie Parker as a good example … he didn’t do squat in college. Somehow, someway, Bill Cowher heard of him and made him a special project. To his credit he’s done well. But his play in college didn’t warrant the opportunity. As Antonio Bryant showed, your play can overcome your bad attitude, which apparently got WP in the doghouse in school. Steeler fans have a right to love him, but as far as UNC was concerned, he was a wasted scholarship.
