Impact of the Road Games

As lame as Pitt’s home schedule is this fall, the road schedule receives recognition as being a challenge. Really, it’s on the strength — or brutality — of playing the expected best three teams on the road. Plus playing two other BCS conference schools in Michigan St. and Virginia on the road.

Rivals.com listed Pitt’s schedule as the 23d toughest in the country, and the 2d toughest in the Big East. That’s with Grambling and Eastern Michigan on the schedule. It’s either a bit of a reflection of the perception of the top three teams in the Big East now, or just how bad other schools schedule that Pitt’s sched. would make the top 25 in schedule difficulty.
Ideally, 2-3 on the road this season would be amazing progress. 1-4 would be tolerable.

well I guess the good news is that we will play all those teams at home next year when we “should” be a much improved team.

Did anyone else catch the State Penn preview on espn news this weekend? they interviewed Morelli and wow Im not sure that guy can spell his own name. You could see the wheels turning while he was trying to put together a sentence.

I don’t think 1-4 on the road is tolerable. They have to win at least two road games this year.

No. I stand by 1-4 as tolerable since 7-5 is roughly my expectations, and Pitt should have little excuse not to go 6-1 at home.

I’m not sure PITT home field advantage means as much as the disadvantage of playing away.

“Pittsburgh managed to go 0-4 against Michigan State, West Virginia, Louisville and Rutgers last year at Heinz Field and now has to face all four on the road with a younger team.”

A win from ONE of those games would be a miracle, let alone tolerable. 2-3 would be pretty damn surprising from this team. Virginia isn’t a gimmie game or anything, either. So, yeah, 1-4 on the road is tolerable, for sure.

You guys are forgetting to factor in the 1 game per year that we should win, but lose.

I would be content with 2-3 on the road, but I would prefer an undefeated BCS title run.

I refuse to believe Rutgers is all that after one year when their seniors aligned. By the time that game is played hopefully many of our pieces have come together and we win. Otherwise, there can’t be much optimism to win any of the remaining road games. Maybe if some of the key Hoopies go Pac-Man and are sitting in prison by that day…
