Down Time

Filed under: Uncategorized — Chas @ 3:06 pm

Posting may get sporadic for the next week or so as I get reacquainted with sleep deprivation. My wife just delivered our second child. Our son, Kian Derek was born today. He clocked in at 8 pounds, 8 ounces and 20 inches long.
Back in December we found out the gender and started working on figuring out a name. Funny thing as you get older. You start running out of names as you don’t want to name them after ex’s or just people in your past who have pissed you off. And as you get older, the list of people you don’t like, gets longer. So, we were driving back from the ultrasound tossing out names (and shooting them down). As we went, I just couldn’t help but suggest, “Aaron Tyler.” The wife actually started thinking about it. Unfortunately, I couldn’t keep a straight face. When I told her who they were, she sighed and crossed the names off the list.

Good news, the hospital has wi-fi.

Should have named him Yuri Keith. A sure fire women beater.

Congrats on the new addition to your family. I’m expecting my second October 14, but my wife doesn’t want to know the sex. Our first born was a boy, and I also made an attempt at Tyler for the name. My wife was kinda solkd but convinced me that too many boys have that name these days. So we settled on Jake. You are right about the difficulty selecting names. We went through the same process with many selections getting shot down for simliar past aquantances. We both liked Jake, and the only negative person I could think of with the same name was Jake Plummer.

My wife was told she couldn’t have any children, so when she got pregnant and we had our son I wanted to name him “Random” but she said it sounded too much like a riverboat gambler – so we named him “Chance”.

Kian Derek?

Sounds like a future starter for The Reggie Cleveland All-Stars.

Congrats.

Congrats Chas! Forget about the site for a while and enjoy the newborn. I’m sure we can find something with which to entertain ourselves. Hmmmmm….

Mazel Tov Chas. Whats more painful, watching PITT sports over the last 5 years or watching the Bris?

2 to my none, Chas. Good going. Am no doubt envious.

It was only yesterday I was asked by several Senegalize (African Natls contracted to paint the home) how many children (mine) would be moving into the home after they’d finished.

“Well, we’ve got 3 animals — all of ’em good dogs… we’re prone to shooting blanks around here after age 30,” I told him. I dont think the humour (or not) got through in this case….

… blanks, ya know? versus live rounds? yeah? … err, no?

Once more, Chas, good going. And the kids can choose any school besides PSU, right? right?

Zook has a scholarship for him. Saban is trying to steal him. And Mel Kiper says he must work on his release point.

Is your wife Irish? A lot of boys in Ireland are named Cian, which is pronounced “Key-un”. If you used that Gaelic spelling in the USA you’d get called “Scion” or “See-un”, but with the “K” you’re still going to get an even number of “Kai-un” and “Key-un”. So he’s looking at a 50% rate of correcting strangers on his name. But on the other hand, he might get some tang from it since it sounds like the kind of name a girl would dig.

Thanks everyone.

In response to some of the comments:

1) the offseason thing was always in the back of my mind when we decided to go for the second child. I don’t want to say it was intentional, but it was at least subconscious. Our daughter was 2 weeks early, so my biggest fear going into April was that she’d go into labor over the Final Four.

2) Watching Pitt football is more disturbing to me then a bris. To paraphrase Norm and Cliff, “If I can eat and drink through that…”

3) Yes, the wife is quite Irish (last name, Madigan), so yes Bill is right about the name’s origins. The Reggie Cleveland versions are actually along the lines of Keon and Keyon. All the same pronunciations, though.

4) Yeah, the kid has a lot of Pitt gear. It turns out I had more stuff than I realized from my daughter’s first couple of years on top of several more things I had ordered.

“The Reggie Cleveland versions are actually along the lines of Keon and Keyon.”

Hehehe,

I just wanted to see if anyone would get the reference.
