Huggins Time

Hey, folks. Sorry to be down on such a big day. Lot of stuff in the offline world and who knew this was going to be such a wild day. I just pushed a quickie on AOL for what Huggins going to WVU means for a lot of teams in the Big East. Suffice to say, that beat writers all over the Big East are very happy today.

For Pitt, specifically, this is a very big deal. Beilein was a very good coach, and much to my annoyance, I liked him. He was creative with the talent he had at WVU. Huggins, though, is a villain. There are never enough good villains. He brings a huge nasty edge back to the basketball part of the Backyard Brawl. Let’s face it, a little hate is good in a rivalry.

Then there is the recruiting aspect. As we all know, the Pittsburgh and Western PA AAU teams — the various JOTS teams — are under the control of J.O. Stright. Stright, of course, is a very close friend of Huggins.

The biggest prize in the recruiting aspect is Terrelle Pryor. It’s kind of scary how logical it could look for Pryor at WVU. Consider Pryor’s athletic talents as a QB in the Mountaineer spread offense. Then going over to basketball with Huggins there and Stright encouraging that. Uh, yeah. I’m going to stop thinking about that now.

The move makes a lot of sense for Huggins when you think about how strong his recruiting connections are from Western PA all the way across Indiana. Cinci won’t be happy. And guess what, neither will Xavier and Sean Miller who now has to have Huggins back recruiting against him much more locally.

Next season just got that much more interesting.

will Micheal Beasley stay at K-State and if not does anyone know where he’ll go?

i’m not looking forward to having Thuggins at wvu. hes a great coach but is a giant recruiting violation waiting to happen.

WVU has just sold their soul to the devil.

This brings WVU down to a new low. Maybe the DUI enforcement is a bit more lax in that state.

Good luck, WVU, with America’s #1 Snake. For anyone else, a move like this would ruin his reputation. This guy has none, though, except as an evil-doer

This is a match made in heaven for Hooplehead Tech!

Was there a spelling test during Huggins’ interview?

Chas is right in that this adds a nice extra hate factor to WVU. I could never bring myself to fully hate Beilein or Rodriguez. But Thuggins? I started hating him a decade and a half ago. Done.

The only problem is, he CAN recruit like a mutha. He can recruit so well that he actually might be an upgrade from Beilein. Damn. And you just KNOW that he’s gonna hit Pittsburgh hard.

Chas, how’s our favorite Cincinnati Bearcat and Thuggins fan handling her man being back in the Big East again?

I’m most interested in if K State will release Beasely from his LOI. If so, PITT would be on the block as it was between K State and PITT where he’d signed. WVU also would be in the mix.

#1 recruit @ Pitt? This is what we’ve been waiting for…..

This really speaks volumes about the WVU administration and their desire to win at all costs. I’m starting to see a pattern of low rent behavior from them. Beilein wanted out becuase the Administration made promises that they did not keep; RR almost left because promises were made that were not being kept. Now they hire a BB coach who practices a win at all costs mentality…no matter how much shame he will bring to the university in the process. Shame on the WVU AD!!! This was not a briliant move, it was a desperate act!

“briliant”…that is *brilliant*

Combine Huggins; hiring with the trouble the football team (including alumni Chris Henry and Pacman Jones) has had and WVU just might mean Warrants Vast University. The WV State boys and the Morgantown Police are going to be awfully busy in the next couple of years.
Admission requirements for athletes = Ability to breathe
Class Time requirements = None at all
Mountaineer arrest record = Unfathomable.
Priceless
A soul selling if ever there was one!

They have police? That do what? When is the last time ANYBODY actually got convicted of ANYTHING down there?
