Looks like Aaron Gray might be feeling a little more pain and discomfort from than injury than he originally had and it could be a bit more serious than originally believed. Dixon played it cool though and he comes in to calm us all down.
Two X-rays and a magnetic resonance imaging did not show any structural damage to the wrist, and Pitt coach Jamie Dixon said he is hopeful that Gray will be able to practice today and play against Marquette.
“I would say he has more discomfort than pain,” Dixon said. “We’ll see how it goes [today]. He was able to play with it Tuesday, and he did pretty well. I don’t see that it is anything serious. But we’re going to see how it is [today] and go from there.”
The final decision is to be made later today or tomorrow.
If he were to sit this one out, Levon Kendall would move over to center and Tyrell Biggs and Sam Young would play more at power forward. We might find out the hard way that sometimes we don’t appreciate Gray’s presence until he’s out.
“To say that Pitt’s running back depth chart is overloaded is an understatement. On paper at tailback, Dave Wannstedt is looking at LaSean McCoy, LaRod Stephens-Howling, Kevin Collier, Shane Brooks, Xavier Stinson, Shariff Harris and Greg Williams. From what we’re hearing, at least one of the incoming freshman won’t be eligible to play next season, so that’ll eliminate at least one back. To clear it up more, Pittsburghsportsinsider.com has been told that Wannstedt plans on approaching two of backs about switching over to play defense. Assuming McCoy is academically OK to play, he’s your starter. The plan is for Stephens-Howling to get 10-15 touches a game, either carrying or catching the ball. The talent in the backfield will be a nice problem for Wannstedt to deal with next season.”
Stinson and Harris to LB maybe? And interesting that he wouldn’t list Dickerson as a RB.
Anyway you cut it the RB position should be well covered next year – especially if McCoy gets his ducks in a row to play.
Sorry, had to get my football fix in….
