All of the questions surrounding LeSean McCoy, that is. His high school coach confirmed what we already knew and then were told not to believe: Shady is Pittsburgh bound.
“I deal with all the Division I-A schools in the country and I have to say, without a doubt, Pitt recruited really hard,” McCoy’s Milford Academy coach Ben Chaplick told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “I guess it paid off in the end. He clicked with Coach (Dave) Wannstedt and that’s who he’ll be playing for.”
McCoy reportedly committed to Pitt this weekend after a visit, but the report was not confirmed until today. He is expected to make an official announcement later today.
The official announcement is expected tonight, even with the collective thoughts of Pitt fans focused on the Pitt-UConn match up. And in case you missed the recruiting video of McCoy posted in the comments section, I gladly present it (Video Link).
Other Pitt football news is the news of Chris Ball being hired as the new secondary coach. Even though it’s a few days old it is still important to note.
Or at least it would be if we had a somewhat competent defensive coordinator.
Wannstedt, as any smart coach would do, praises him quite a bit.
“In Chris Ball we have added an exceptional football coach and recruiter,” Wannstedt said. “Chris has been an integral part of some of the top defenses in the country. We expect his experience and knowledge to be a major asset for our program.”
He comes from Alabama where he had some good defensive backfields under his watch. Over the past few years the numbers of his defenses have looked good. In 2004 they ranked first nationally in pass defense and second in pass efficiency defense allowing just 113.1 yards per game through the air and limited opposing quarterbacks to a 92.8 rating. 2005 saw them ranked as fifth nationally in pass defense and yards per game.
Considering this is coming from Phil Grosz and only after McCoy verbaled to Pittsburgh, I dont buy it. Saving face might be the word for it.
Where’s the link?
Not the first time he has made something up to appease his fan base.
McCoy can’t make it at PSU? Since when has Joe decided to make it “harder” to be a football player at PSU? Let me tell you that if McCoy wanted or still wants to be at PSU, they would certainly take him. Let’s not be silly! Don’t kid yourself!
McCoy also disputed rumors that Penn State hadn’t offered a scholarship because he hasn’t qualified yet or that the Nittany Lions pulled their offer off the table.
“Of course they offered me,” McCoy said. “That’s crazy for people to say that. That’s nuts. Anybody who believes that, they’re nuts, too.”
Grosz knows exactly what PSU fans want to hear. I’ll give him credit for selling subscriptions to the people who want him to say exactly what they want to hear.
Penn State spent over 2 years coddling McCoy to try and lure him to State College and then pull his offer 2 weeks before LOI day? Not buying it. Here is why.
1) Grosz has a radio show and mentioned nothing about it on Thursday or Friday of last week (remember that Grosz said that the offer was pulled Thursday). Where was his sources screaming that PSUs most needed and most talent recruit on their radar had his offer pulled? It only came out after McCoy verbaled to Pitt.
2)Walton is in the exact same boat as McCoy, yet they are willing to leave him with a scholarship. Why did they not pull his scholarship when he didnt make the grades to become eligible? Considering that McCoy had the grades and only needs to pass 2 classes during this Spring Semester, why would PSU pull the offer of the “baby” they have been coddling up to for a long time.
Like I said, I dont buy it. Grosz had said things before after PSU has lost recruits to other schools. Only reason he still has a job with Rivals is that he sells subscriptions well with his propaganda. Baghdad Bob and Joseph Goebbels would be proud.
Unfortunately, even though McCoy made a valiant effort, by obtaining a 3.7 GPA his fall semester at Milford, he didn’t receive a satisfactory SAT score in December.
I do not know what was actually said at that meeting, but it’s clear that Paterno set up some requirements that the McCoy family and Paterno could not agree upon.
That is why McCoy has decided to verbally commit to Pitt over the weekend and will announce at 3 p.m. this afternoon that he will sign with Pitt on Feb. 7.
So, he didn’t choose Pitt, he couldn’t make it at PSU. Something to be proud of in a recruit, guess we stole him….
This guy is nicknamed SHADY for a reason. Two words for ya…..Maurice Clarett!
