Other brief coaching credit that really should be given at this point. Wide Receivers Coach Aubrey Hill. The way the young receivers have played this year has been a revelation. Oderick Turner and Marcel Pestano have been solid and at times spectacular. Cedric McGee got his chance against Saturday and made the most of it. Really, since we (I) can be so quick to criticize certain coaches, you have to give credit with the development and job done by Hill.
And he has to this point not gotten much attention.
I agree with your point about Aubrey Hill doing a good job. He has. But I would say that Palko has hit his receivers better than they have caught the ball. We are not exactly seeing many Fitz like grabs in a crowd and we have been playing less talented teams (There is only one Fitz though). I just think we have no idea what we will have next year when Palko is gone. Hill has done a great job at teaching fundimentals. I just don’t know what we have yet. A tougher schedule might change our minds. What about Michigan State? We were not catching balls when it counted. We are young and I won’t give too many props to our receivers until they show it for more than one season against real competition.
We’ll be OK when Palko leaves. The system PITT has put in place – west coast offense – will favor smart QBs with accurate arms – and Stull and Bostick fit that bill. Harris seemed to rely on the more ‘vertical’ pass plays with the long ball prominent in his planning. This season we are seeing more yards after catch with the young receivers – and that’s good coaching to play to their strengths. Although we might still have viable downfield threats with Porter and others coming on line. Toney Clemons would help out with that if we can snag him. That and mixing in the TEs (Bynham and Strong especially) and we’ll have guys that can grab the ball.
