Since the homefront is in flux, I’m not making the trip to Pittsburgh today. I am, however, still watching the game. Going over to a friend who has the dish (and ESPN2 Alternative).
I will be live blogging it over at AOL today.
Trying to find live update but difficulty. The Capitali$t are really making it difficult not to spend money to see the game or get updates.
Yeah, Pitt did have a bad quarter. But it’s still 30 minutes to the end of the game. No way is this game over yet.
We are better than last year, and we’ll win our share of games.
It also does not help that our running O is struggling.
Still it is only one game. Just because we won the first two games does not mean we were a great or overly good team. The key for them is to learn from this. Also what they do in the next two games and then against their next BE oppoment will be important.
MSU’s option play and the way Pitt was unable to adjust is a bad portent of the WVU game
Stanton and his RB by committee does not equal White and Slaton
If Wanny/Rhoades do not figure this out and soon this team will be toasted by the WVU offense
I know they don’t have the Pass offense that MSU has but they gave up 300+ yards on the ground (116 in the 2nd Quarter alone)
We might not beat WVU, probably not, and maybe not Louisville either. But, we’ll get more wins.
I don’t think anyone that really followed PITT over the summer training camp expected us to go undefeated, or even 9-3 or 10-2 – most people (myself included) thought 7-5 was reasonable, and it still is.
It didn’t appear so, but it may just be that the Pitt D was outmuscled and the adjustment just was not effective
If he did not make an adjustment then F-Paul Rhoades…
No arguement that we will see improvement. You are probably right that I was overly optimistic after the first 2 games.
The only realistic thing I want from Pitt at this point is respectability. I wouldn’t be so disappointed if they lost 24-21 today.
I think a teams progress should be measured by their level of performance with peers (I know that is a subjective bar).
I do not think the level of play today indicated that we are moving in that direction.
But you are right–I guess the frustration of seeing the same thing year in and year out has worn thin on me.
-Losing to a good team.
-Losing to an average team but playing competively.
Here is what I cannot accept:
-Losing and not playing competively against an average team.
Here is what has me spun up into a dimension of pissed off that I have never experienced.
-Getting our ass kicked by an average team the same way we have gotten our ass kicked by average teams for the last 3 or 4 years…..a simple f’ing option play.
And the missed tackles were very bad – but not the same as last year, the “matador” out-of-position missed tackles. These were lower-the-shoulder bounce-off-the-guy missed tackles, where they just ran over us.
I thought Mich St would score like this. I just thought we’d keep up. Terrible game for Stong with many drops. Terrible game for Kennard Cox.
Point in case, if you think that MSU and Pitt were on the same level before this game started, you were just wrong.
Oh, and as far as the Big East sucking, JC, L’ville looks pretty damn good right now against Miami. About to be 24-7, without Brohm, who got injured. So Pitt may suck, but the conference is gaining back some respect, regardless of how bad Pitt lost today.
You can fault the scheme and Paul Rhoads or Wanny or Cavanaugh if you want–I’m not saying there’s no reason to do so–but with the way this team’s been coming up short in so many areas, I have to say the biggest problem is just a lack of talent and athleticism on the team.
Who were the quarterbacks between Van Pelt and Gonzalez? We must have been drunk those 5-6 years….none of us at this tailgate can remember. Help us Obi-wan, you’re our only hope.
Okay, I didn’t see that stat on ESPN, but it’s true, nonetheless.
I think I remember a guy named Turman….something like that.
OK, we pretty much sucked. But, as disappointed as I am, I still think we’re moving in the right direction as a program.
Let’s get a couple more wins under our belt, and get ready for the hard part of our schedule.
Good points about Rhodes though, if this lack of defensive adaptability keeps up Wanny might have to get his own D coordinator in the fold.
Still a fan.
You can carp about the O and the D but the fact still remains that is a team that is only a year removed from a losing season in which they on a consistent basis lost to inferior teams.
This is a team that is a work in progress and said work is on both O and D. He** you got first year starters on both sides of the line and there are many of them who never played in a college Division one game before.
Pitt’s football program in the last decade or so was mediocre to good and NOT GREAT! G
Where the he** does all this expectation for Pitt to be a great team come from all of a sudden. Look at the freakin roster. You got an O line that last year just plain sucked until the latter part of the season but even then they sucked. The O itself struggled like an ashtmatic weezing for air. The defensive line may as well been playing for Central Catholic or Woodland HIlls.
It cannot be stated enough that this team is a work in progress. Like I said lets see how they do in the next 3 games. Also I wonder how MSU does againt ND.
It is irrational to expect this young team to beat better teams.
I thought UCONN might win but they lost.
